The effect of nanoparticle size and NLS density on nuclear targeting in cancer and normal cells; impaired nuclear import and aberrant nanoparticle in…

2017

The cell nucleus is an interesting target in many diseases with particular interest in cancer. Previously, nuclear targeted small and large chitosan nanoparticles (S-NPs≈25nm, and L-NPs≈150nm respectively), modified with low, intermediate and high densities of NLS (L-NLS, I-NLS and H-NLS) were developed and assessed in L929 fibroblasts. However, to evade apoptosis and stimulate tumor growth cancer cells are capable of manipulating the nuclear-cytoplasmic transport on many levels, making NPs that are capable of nuclear targeting in normal cells incapable of doing so in cancer. For such reason, here, the nuclear delivery efficiency of S-NPs and L-NPs was assessed as a function of their NLS de…

Intensificatori e soggettificazione in latino: sulla grammaticalizzazione di maxime

2022

The aim of this paper is to investigate the grammaticalization path of the intensifying adverb maxime in Early Latin, within the perspective of the so-called ‘subjectification’ theory. Despite the difficulty of drawing discrete boundaries within the multifunctional category of adverbs, the semantic, syntactic and pragmatic analysis of maxime across different contexts of use allows us to identify at least three main functions of this adverb in early Latin texts, mostly in the Roman comedy of Plautus and Terence. In particular, adopting the perspective of the Functional Discourse Grammar, it is shown that maxime is used as (i) degree adverb, which modifies a large range of elements acting at …

The identification and localization of two intermediate filament proteins in the tunic of Styela plicata (Tunicata, Styelidae).

2009

The intermediate filament (IF) proteins Styela C and Styela D from the tunicate Styela (Urochordata) are co-expressed in all epidermal cells and they are thought to behave as type I and type II keratins. These two IF proteins, Styela C and Styela D, were identified in immunoblots of proteins isolated from the tunic of Styela plicata. The occurrence and distribution of these proteins within the tunic of this ascidian was examined by means of immunofluorescence and immunoperoxidase techniques, using anti-Styela C and anti-Styela D antibodies. In addition, immuno-electron microscopy of the tunic showed that the two proteins are located in the cuticle layer and in the tunic matrix. These result…

Economic consequences of populism

2020

This paper is aimed at assessing the potential negative impacts of radicalization and populism on the national economy with a special focus on fiscal policy and international trade. The authors presume that populist governments tend to implement expansionary fiscal policy and advocate protectionism. This research is a synergy of political and economic analysis. The authors describe the EU and Eurozone fiscal trends and risks (public debt and budged deficit) and provide examples of economic commitments of populist governments. They analyse how different definitions of radicalization and populism match with the current trends in populist parties, describe risks of implementing expansionary fi…

PREMISES OF GASTRONOMIC TOURISM

2013

Since the competition among tourism destinations has risen, local culture has developed into a competitive advantage and a priceless resource of new products and services to attract and captivate tourists. Gastronomy plays a vital role in the process of attracting tourists because food has an important part in the tourist experience, plus gastronomy developed over the year's styles and tastes and become a critical source of establishing patterns in postmodern civilization.

Aportació a l'estudi de la conjunció concessiva «jatsia»

2007

Concessive connectors are the focal point of grammaticalization processes, based on several types of lexical sources. In Catalan, «jatsia» (that) is the result of a grammaticalization process based on an aspectual temporary adverb (or phase adverb), which is comparable to the process that produced «encara que». The case of «encara que» has already been studied specifically by Pérez Saldanya & Salvador (1995), while Klesper (1930), Badia (1982) and Cuenca & Massip (2005) have focused on «jatsia» (that). The interest of the study of these processes is increased in the case of «jatsia»(that) by the polymorphism it shows and by the displacement it has experimented in its use, since it has gone …

On the typology of motion events in Aymara

2021

This paper investigates the lexicalization pattern of motion events in Aymara, an Andean language spoken in Bolivia, Peru, and Chile. After providing a description of the morphosyntax of translational motion events, this study aims at a preliminary typological classification of Aymara within the framework of Talmy’s typology (Talmy 2000). With this purpose, three diagnostic tests have been used to determine the basic framing-typology of motion events. These tests consider i) the size of manner-of-motion lexicon and, more broadly, the degree of manner salience, ii) the complex-path constructions and the use of ‘plus-ground’ clauses, iii) the expression of boundary-crossing. The results of th…

Rimbaud e Apollinaire nas recreacións poéticas bielorrusas: particularidades do tratamento fraseoestilístico / Rimbaud and Apollinaire in Belarusian …

2021
