Experimental investigation on different rainfall energy harvesting structures

2018

In this paper proposes an experimental comparison between different rainfall harvesting devices and the study of the corresponding electrical rectifying circuit. More in detail, three harvesting structures are considered: the cantilever, the bridge and the floating circle. For each of the proposed structure, different waveforms have been acquired and discussed. The processed data have been compared in order to suggest the best choice for the rectifying circuit, from the simplest one to the most endorsed in the technical literature.

Fundamental Noise Limits and Sensitivity of Piezoelectrically Driven Magnetoelastic Cantilevers

2020

International audience; Magnetoelastic sensors for the detection of low-frequency and low-amplitude magnetic fields are in the focus of research for more than 30 years. In order to minimize the limit of detection (LOD) of such sensor systems, it is of high importance to understand and to be able to quantify the relevant noise sources. In this contribution, cantilever-type electromechanical and magnetoelastic resonators, respectively, are comprehensively investigated and mathematically described not only with regard to their phase sensitivity but especially to the extent of the sensor-intrinsic phase noise. Both measurements and calculations reveal that the fundamental LOD is limited by addi…

Synthesis, Crystal Structure and Magnetic Properties of Heteropolynuclear Re IV M II Complexes Based on the Robust [ReCl 5 (pyzCOO)] 2– Unit (pyzCOO …

2016

The syntheses, crystal structures and magnetic properties of four rhenium(IV) compounds of formulae NBu4[ReCl5(pyzCOOH)]·H2O (1), [ReCl5(µ-pyzCOO)M(dmphen)2]·2CH3CN [M = Ni (2) and Co (3)] and {[ReCl5(µ3-pyzCOO)]2Mn2(dmphen)3}n (4) (NBu4 = tetra-n-butylammonium cation, pyzCOOH = 2-pyrazinecarboxylic acid, dmphen = 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline) are reported herein. Compound 1 was obtained by the reaction of NBu4[ReCl5(dmf)] (dmf = dimethylformamide) with pyzCOOH in acetone, whereas the other complexes were obtained by the reaction of 1 with M(ClO4)2·6H2O [M = Ni (2), Co (3), Mn (4)] and dmphen in acetonitrile. Complex 1 is a mononuclear compound, 2 and 3 are neutral heterodinuclear compl…

Quasi-Static Displacement Self-Sensing Measurement for a 2-DOF Piezoelectric Cantilevered Actuator

2017

This paper proposes a self-sensing measurement technique to perform the precise estimation of the displacements along two axes in a two-degrees-of-freedom (2-DOF) piezoelectric actuator. For that, a new electrical circuit scheme that permits charge amplification is first proposed to match the different electrodes combination of the 2-DOF actuator. Then, a new bivariable observer that precisely estimates the displacements is calculated and implemented experimentally in a cascade with the electrical circuit to complete the self-sensing. The experimental tests and results verification with external sensors revealed that the measured displacements given by the developed self-sensing measurement…

Dietary Diversity and Nutritional Adequacy among an Older Spanish Population with Metabolic Syndrome in the PREDIMED-Plus Study: A Cross-Sectional An…

2019

Dietary guidelines emphasize the importance of a varied diet to provide an adequate nutrient intake. However, an older age is often associated with consumption of monotonous diets that can be nutritionally inadequate, increasing the risk for the development or progression of diet-related chronic diseases, such as metabolic syndrome (MetS). To assess the association between dietary diversity (DD) and nutrient intake adequacy and to identify demographic variables associated with DD, we cross-sectionally analyzed baseline data from the PREDIMED-Plus trial: 6587 Spanish adults aged 55&ndash

Anti-Semitism and Progressive Era Social Science. The case of John R. Commons

2016

This paper explores Common’s views toward Jews in order to assess whether his published writings contain assertion that today would be stigmatized as anti-Semitic. The evidence we provide shows that Commons’ racial characterization of Jews was framed within a broad and indiscriminate xenophobic framework. With other leading Progressive Era social scientists, in fact, Commons shared the idea that the new immigration from Eastern and southern Europe would increase competition in the labor market, drive down wages, and lead Anglo-Saxon men and women to have fewer children, since they would not want them to compete with those who survive on less. Within this general xenophobic context, Commons …

The present work analyses the possibility of conferring an irrevocable mandate on one of the par…
