Reliability of the capacity factor at zero micellar concentration and the solute-micelle association constant estimates by micellar liquid chromatogr…
1997
In micellar liquid chromatography, MLC, the hydrophobicity of a compound is the predominant effect on its retention and interaction with micelles. The capacity factors at zero micellar concentration, k(m), and the solute-micelle association constants, KAM- have recently been used as the hydrophobicity index of compounds and are important in QSAR studies. These parameters could be estimated (by regression) from the (k,[M]) data, where k is the capacity factor and [M] the surfactant concentration minus the critical micelle concentration. km and KAM are usually obtained from the intercept and slope, respectively, of the plot 1/k vs. [M]. In spite of the general use of this equation, the reliab…
Prediction of ionic liquid's heat capacity by means of their in silico principal properties
2016
The in silico principal properties (PPs) of ionic liquids (ILs), derived by means of the VolSurf+ approach, were used to develop a Partial Least Squares (PLS) model able to find a quantitative correlation among IL descriptors (accounting for both cationic and anionic structural features) and heat capacity values, providing affordable predictions validated by experimental Cp measurements for an external set of ILs. In silico predictions allowed the selection of a limited number of structurally different ILs with similar Cp values, providing the possibility to select an optimal IL according to efficiency, as well as to environmental and economic sustainability. The present general procedure, …
Relationships of leisure-time physical activity and work ability between different occupational physical demands in adult working men
2019
Purpose: Leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) is known to be associated with positive health benefits, but the role of occupational physical demands remains inconsistent. The purpose of the current study was to assess the relationship between LTPA and work ability in different occupational physical activity (OPA) levels between young adult men. - Methods: We performed physical activity measurements in work and leisure time with the long version of International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and work ability with the Work Ability Index (WAI) in 921 Finnish employed male volunteer participants. The participants were divided into LTPA tertiles I ( 28 MET-h/week) and OPA tertiles I (0…
Heat Capacity and Dielectric Properties of the PNN-PT Ferroelectric Ceramics
2012
A study of dielectric permittivity and heat capacity of the (1-х)PbNi1/3Nb2/3O3 – хPbTiO3 solid solution system (x = 0.3, 0.4, 0.5) within the 290–700 K range is reported. Temperatures of phase transitions Tm determined from maximums of dielectric permittivity ϵ depends on the content of PbTiO3. A broad phase transition is shown to proceed in the 0.7PbNi1/3Nb2/3O3–0.3PbTiO3 composition around 312 K. Specific to phase transitions anomalous heat capacity is observed at Т ≈ 520 K in all compositions studied.
Thermal properties of ferroelectric 0.7PbNi1/3Nb2/3O3–0.3PbTiO3ceramics
2013
A study of heat capacity as function of temperature of the 0.7PbNi1/3Nb2/3O3–0.3PbTiO3 solid solution within the 120–800 K range is reported. Broad anomalies on the curve of heat capacity are revealed in the 250–450 K and 450–650 K intervals peaking at 520 K and a λ-anomaly at T ≈ 225 K. Results are discussed with account for dielectric and structural data.
Long-range magnetic order in the porous metal–organic framework Ni(pyrazine)[Pt(CN)4]
2017
A combined study involving DFT calculations, neutron scattering, heat capacity and magnetic measurements at very low temperatures demonstrates the long-range magnetic ordering of Ni(pyrazine)[Pt(CN)4] below 1.9 K, describing its antiferromagnetic spin arrangement. This compound belongs to the family of porous coordination polymers M(pyrazine)[Pt(CN)4] (M = divalent metal), renowned for showing interesting combinations of porosity and magnetic properties. The possibility of including long-range magnetic ordering, one of the most pursued functional properties, opens new perspectives for the multifunctionality of this class of compounds.
Comparing Recurrent Neural Networks using Principal Component Analysis for Electrical Load Predictions
2021
Electrical demand forecasting is essential for power generation capacity planning and integrating environment-friendly energy sources. In addition, load predictions will help in developing demand-side management in coordination with renewable power generation. Meteorological conditions influence urban area load pattern; therefore, it is vital to include weather parameters for load predictions. Machine Learning algorithms can effectively be used for electrical load predictions considering impact of external parameters. This paper explores and compares the basic Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN); Simple Recurrent Neural Networks (Vanilla RNN), Gated Recurrent Units (GRU), and Long Short-Term Me…
University Complexity and Regional Development in the Periphery
2018
Higher education institutions (HEIs) located in peripheral areas tend to struggle when it comes to attracting talented students, staff, and competitive funding, and they often lack in-house research capacity, which limits the developmental roles they can play in their host regions. This, in turn, generates a set of internal and external tensions that universities need to address in their quests for legitimate places in the increasingly competitive domestic and international higher education field, as well as in their immediate geographic surroundings. Building on earlier work in the field, combining seminal insights from organisational and higher education studies, this chapter provides a b…

Feasibility of the 30 s Sit-to-Stand Test in the Telehealth Setting and Its Relationship to Persistent Symptoms in Non-Hospitalized Patients with Lon…
2022
Fatigue, dyspnea and pain are the main limitations of patients with long COVID. The aim of this study was to determine the feasibility of the 30 s sit-to-stand (30s-STS) test in the telehealth setting and its relationship to persistent symptoms in a sample of non-hospitalized patients with long COVID. A cross-sectional study was conducted in community patients with long COVID. Data collection and assessments were performed by videoconference and consisted of the fatigue assessment scale (FAS), London activity of daily living scale (LCADL), post-COVID-19 functional status (PCFS) and European quality of life questionnaire (EQ-5D-5L), including the pain/discomfort dimension. The 30s-STS test w…
