Packing a multidisperse system of hard disks in a circular environment.

We consider the problem of finding the densest closed packing of hard disks with proposed different radii in a circular environment, such that the radius of the circumcircle is minimal. With our approach, we are able to find denser packings for various problem instances than known from the literature. Both for the dynamics of the simulation and for the optimum values of the radii of the circumcircles, we find various scaling laws.

The synthesis of a hybrid graphene-nickel/manganese mixed oxide and its performance in lithium-ion batteries

[EN] Mixing of aqueous suspensions of delaminated NiMn layered double hydroxide (LDH) and graphene oxide leads to the instantaneous precipitation of a hybrid material that after calcination under inert atmosphere at 450 degrees C leads to Ni6MnO8 nanoparticles deposited on larger reconstituted graphene sheets. This material exhibits electrical conductivity similar to graphite, superparamagnetism and can be used as an anode for Li-ion batteries. Most studies about soil organic carbon (OC) stock focus on the topsoil storage capacity, however, it has been proved that OC can reach relatively high values also in depth. The aim of this work was a preliminary investigation of the soil types with a high OC content in depth and the relationship with the main pedogenetic factors. The dataset was the 1,414 Italian National Soil Typologies (STU). This experiment aimed to investigate the possibility to increase the carcass weight of dairy breed lambs and produce moderate-fat meat by applying inexpensive feeding strategies based on restriction and through the use of a fibrous byproduct such as the durum wheat bran (DWB). The aim of this study was to produce a fresh ovine pressed cheese within Pecorino “Primosale” typology with the addition of citrus essential oils (EOs). For this purpose, ewe’s pasteurized milk was added with EOs from the peel of lemons, oranges and tangerines.
