Wireless capsule endoscopy is a new diagnostic procedure to detect diseases of the small bowel, in particular in patients with obscure gastrointestinal bleeding. We report on a 76-year-old patient who presented at our hospital with signs of gastrointestinal bleeding and hypochromic anaemia. Bidirectional endoscopy, push enteroscopy, angiography as well as small bowel barium enema rendered no pathologic findings. Wireless capsule endoscopy demonstrated a polypous space in the cantral area of the small bowel. The prevalence of antibodies to Epstein-Barr virus-determined antigens was studied in 17 children with acute infectious mononucleosis (IM) and in 263 children hospitalized for diseases unrelated to EBV infection. Antibodies against Epstein-Barr viral capsid antigens (VCA) were observed in 173 patients of the control group (66%), but 58 of them (33,5%) had not yet developed antibodies against Epstein-Barr virus-associated nuclear antigen (EBNA). Summary The ganglionic eminence (GE) representing a conspicuous bulb-like elevation of the telencephalic proliferative zone has recently been shown to be involved in the establishment of cortical connections. This study demonstrates the presence of synaptogyrin-immunoreactivity in a large number of cell bodies of the human GE between 12 and 20 weeks of gestation. From the 20 th week onwards synaptogyrin expression sharply declines. No immunoreactive structures are detectable in the 23 rd week or later.
