Dynamic sensory description of Rioja Alavesa red wines made by different winemaking practices by using Temporal Dominance of Sensations
2015
BACKGROUND Although sensory description of wines in scientific literature is very large, there is an evident lack of studies describing wines from a dynamic approach. The objective of this study was to describe the evolution of the sensations perceived in red wines from Rioja Alavesa by using Temporal Dominance of Sensations (TDS) and also to compare wines made with the two winemaking procedures used in Rioja Alavesa: carbonic maceration (CM) and destemming (DS). RESULTS Ten sensory attributes were evaluated in eight wines (four CM and four DS wines) in triplicate by a panel of 16 trained assessors. Red/black berry and woody aromas were dominant firstly, whereas heat, astringent, bitter and…
The holocene marine depositional event in the historical centre of palermo
2004
Carbonic anhydrase inhibitor with topical NSAID therapy to manage cystoid macular edema in a case of gyrate atrophy
2017
Purpose Gyrate atrophy of the choroid and retina (GACR) is a rare chorioretinal dystrophy characterized by a deficiency of the enzyme ornithine aminotransferase, inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern. Case Report We report a case of a 17-year-old girl with GACR, for whom the level of serum ornithine had been reduced by an arginine-restricted diet. The patient was responsive to an association of topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor (CAI) to reduce cystoid macular edema (CME). Conclusions The efficacy of topical NSAIDs and systemic CAI association indicates that the imbalance in the distribution of retinal pigment epithelium membrane-b…
Palaeomagnetic investigations in the Hercynian mountain belt of central Europe
1983
Abstract The palaeomagnetism of sediments and volcanics of Middle Devonian to Early Carboniferous age has been studied in the Hercynian realm of the Vosges, Harz and Franconian Forest (France and Germany). After appropriate cleaning, characteristic directions of natural remanent magnetization (NRM) have been determined, which are considered to be of pretectonic origin according to rock magnetic and structural geological evidence. A mean palaeopole for the Devonian rocks in the areas investigated was determined at — 29.7°N and 9.0°E. The site latitude derived from the Devonian rocks agrees very well with that observed in Great Britain and Britanny. The significant difference in longitude bet…
Formation of Hercynian subplates, possible causes and consequences
1976
WITH the exception of the microplate models of Badham and Halls1 and Riding2 models of Hercynian plate tectonics3–7 have assumed the existence of only one plate, that is, South Europe, between Africa and the Tethys in the south and North America–Europe and the Mid-European Ocean in the north. The South European plate has generally been considered as a stable unit. Studies of the Alpine system8, however, suggest that such an assumption may not be valid. I assume here that during the Carboniferous, South Europe was originally an elongated plate with nearly straight margins and internal structures. Collision with the irregular continental margins of the bounding plates North America–Europe and…
1998
Abstract Several orders of stacked genetic sequences in the Westphalian C of the Jerada Basin are defined from detailed sedimentological data. Eight coal seams were formed in this paralic basin as distal facies passed laterally into proximal facies in retrogradational stages. These stages are related to base level rises that curtailed detrital influx and induced the development of swamps and the preservation of organic matter below anoxic water levels. The base level variations are related to active faulting along the basin margins and to sea level changes in the Palaeo-Tethys.
