Myofibroblasts (MFs), a contractile subset of fibroblasts, play a pivotal role in physiological wound healing and in the development of many fibroconnective disorders. The complex cytokine network regulating the function of MFs in joint stiffness is still poorly understood. In this in vitro study, we investigated the effect of the cytokine Interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) on MFs isolated from human joint capsules. Progestogens and risk of breast cancer: a link between bone and breast?

This article reviews the data supporting the role of receptor activator of the nuclear factor kappa (RANK) and its ligand, RANKL, in progestogen-induced breast cancer. Both experimental and clinical studies have been included. The expression of both RANK and RANKL has been described in epithelial cells of both mice and humans. Experiments of gain and loss of function in mice have shown that RANK/RANKL mediate alveologenesis during pregnancy or the estrous cycle. SATB2 is commonly expressed in osteosarcomas. Although apparently being a valuable diagnostic marker for differentiating between small cell osteosarcoma (SCO) and other small round cell tumors of bone, for instance Ewing sarcoma family of tumors (ESFT), it has not been tested in a large series of ESFT and chondrosarcomas so far. We studied the immunohistochemical expression of SATB2 in 42 osteosarcomas, 31 chondrosarcomas, and 371 genetically confirmed ESFT. SATB2 positivity was detected in 90.4% of osteosarcomas, 87.5% of SCO, 91.3% of osteoblastic osteosarcomas, and in all chondroblastic and parosteal osteosarcomas. Introduction Pharmacokinetic interaction of high-dose methotrexate (MTX) and other concomitantly administered renally secreted medicinal products may lead to insufficient methotrexate serum level decrease and significant MTX toxicity. Case report We report the case of an 18-year-old male patient treated with high-dose MTX for an osteosarcoma and with high-dose piperacillin-tazobactam at the same time. MTX serum levels were severely elevated 24 hours after the MTX infusion and did not decrease in accordance with the specific calcium folinate rescue protocol.
