Abstract To compare outcomes of popliteal artery aneurysm (PAA) repair by endovascular treatment, great saphenous vein (GSV) bypass, and prosthetic bypass. Single center retrospective analysis of patients presenting PAA from 2000 to 2013. Patients were divided into endovascular treatment (group A); GSV bypass (group B); and prosthetic graft bypass (group C). Outcomes were technical success, perioperative mortality, and morbidity. The observation of a close relationship of heart rate to oxygen uptake (HR-VO2) and heart rate to minute ventilation (HR-VE) has been shown to be of particular value in rate variable pacing. However, the impact of anaerobic threshold (AT) for the HR-VO2 and HR-VE slope has been studied less. Sudden cardiac death while wearing a Holter monitor

The Holter tapes of 61 patients (46 men, mean age +/- standard deviation 65 +/- 11 years) with sudden cardiac death while being monitored were analyzed. Thirty-eight patients were known to have coronary artery disease, 5 had cardiomyopathy, and 7 had aortic valve disease. Etiology remained unknown in 11 patients. Mean New York Heart Association functional class was 2.5 +/- 0.7. Thirty patients had received antiarrhythmic drugs and 32 had received digitalis. Sudden death occurred at rest in 73%. In the hours before death, repetitive ventricular arrhythmias were found in 50 patients (82%), with atrial fibrillation in 34%. The effects of theophylline (3×10−5 M–5×10−3 M), isoprenaline (10−6 M), excess calcium (7.2 mM) and ouabain (3×10−7 M) on force of contraction and c-AMP content were studied in electrically driven (frequency 3 Hz) left auricles isolated from guinea pigs pretreated with reserpine.

We studied the effects of running-training, heavy exercise and termination of training on the heart weight, the ratio heart to body weight and the cardiac muscle activities of actomyosin ATPase, citrate synthase, succinate dehydrogenase, cytochrome c oxidase, malate dehydrogenase, adenylate kinase and beta-glucuronidase with adult male NMRI-mice. Stable hypertrophy (6-7%), estimated by the ratio heart or ventricle weight to body weight, was achieved by 28 exercises and it was dependent on the running speed (20 vs. 25 m X min-1). Acid hydrolase activities in skeletal and cardiac muscle were studied 5, 10 and 20 days after exhaustive intermittent running by untrained and endurance-trained mice. Exhaustion increased the activities of cathepsin D, beta-glucuronidase and ribonuclease, but not that of p-nitrophenylphosphatase in skeletal muscle of untrained mice. Activities were highest on the fifth day after exhaustion and decreased during the following two weeks. More intensive loading produced no changes in acid hydrolytic capacity in skeletal muscle of endurance-trained mice. Little is known about the role of HRV in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients. Aim of our study was to assess the relationship between HRV measurements and demographic and clinical variables in a population of 274 AF patients. We selected all consecutive patients with persistent/permanent AF among whom had performed a Holter ECG in our Department from April 2010 to April 2015. Time-domain analysis of HRV was evaluated.
