Introduction and objectives Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) is a common comorbidity in patients with heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Previous studies have shown that diabetic women are at higher risk of developing HF than men. However, the long-term prognosis of diabetic HFpEF patients by sex has not been extensively explored. AbstractThere is limited information on the association of overweight and obesity with cardiac remodeling in elderly population. Therefore, we investigated whether overweight and obesity are associated with cardiac geometric structures and function in Chinese elderly. A total of 1183 hospitalized patients (aged 65–99 years) with primary hypertension were collected retrospectively in a cross-sectional study, and divided into underweight, normal weight, overweight and obesity patient groups according to their body mass index (BMI). Evaluation of nocturnal vs. morning measures of heart rate indices in young athletes

Purpose The purpose of this study was to compare heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability in young endurance athletes during nocturnal sleep and in the morning; and to assess whether changes in these values are associated with changes in submaximal running (SRT) and counter-movement jump (CMJ) performance. Noncompaction of the ventricular myocardium is a disease characterized by an increase of the ventricular trabecular meshwork caused by arrest of the normal endomyocardial morphogenesis (Figs. 1, 2, 3). Spiral wave induced numerically using electrical stimulation and comparison with experimental results.

Experiments in vitro on a Microelectrode Array (MEA) platform show that electrical stimulation can provoke the generation of spiral waves in cardiac tissue. Nevertheless, the conditions leading to this artificial fibrillation state remain unclear. In order to have a better understanding of this phenomenon, a numerical simulation study has been conducted. The results obtained with a two-dimensional FitzHugh-Nagumo model proved that it is possible to create spiral waves by adding a stimulation current under certain conditions, which are made explicit.

Actively contractile cardiomyocyte (CM) monolayer represents an interesting tool to study both cardiac diseases and injuries. However, this model is poorly transfectable with conventional agents. Consequently, there is a need to develop new carriers that could overcome this problem. The estimation of blood flow-induced loads occurring on the artery wall is affected by uncertainties hidden in the complex interaction of the pulsatile flow, the mechanical parameters of the artery, and the external support conditions. Analysis of the effects of pulsed microwave on cardiac activity

Abstract The exposure of isolated chick embryo hearts to 2.45 GHz pulse modulated microwaves has identified certain phenomena: (1) when the heartbeat was irregular, an appropriate pulse repetition rate caused regularization; (2) during regular beating, an increase of pulse repetition rate similarly increased the heartbeat frequency, until an irregular heartbeat appeared; (3) by applying microwaves, when an arrhythmia occurs, a regular beat appeared after a few seconds.
