Innovative Managed Care May Be Related to Improved Prognosis for Acute Myocardial Infarction Survivors
2021
Background: Mortality following discharge in myocardial infarction survivors remains high. Therefore, we compared outcomes in myocardial infarction survivors participating and not participating in a novel, nationwide managed care program for myocardial infarction survivors in Poland. Methods: We used public databases. We included all patients hospitalized due to acute myocardial infarction in Poland between October 1, 2017 and December 31, 2018. We excluded from the analysis all patients aged <18 years as well as those who died during hospitalization or within 10 days following discharge from hospital. All patients were prospectively followed. The primary end point was defined as death …
Normalwerterstellung von Blutströmungsgeschwindigkeiten an der Arteria mesenterica superior bei Früh- und Reifgeborenen mit der Duplexsonographie
1994
In a prospective study blood flow velocity measurements were performed in 110 "healthy" newborn with duplex Doppler sonography in the superior mesenteric artery to obtain standard values. In 49 of these neonates 15, 30, and 45 minutes following feeding examinations were performed. Peak systolic flow velocity, end systolic flow velocity, time average flow velocity and time average maximum flow velocity were determined, the resistance and Pourcelot index as well as the volume blood flow were calculated. The children's gestational age was 27-42 weeks, the postnatal age was 2-68 days and the body weight was 920-4190 g. All measured blood flow velocities showed a synchronous relation to feeding …
Microvascular blood flow changes of the abductor pollicis brevi muscle during sustained static exercise
2020
ABSTRACTA practical assessment of the health of the palm muscle, abductor pollicis brevis (APB), is important for diagnosis of different conditions. Here we have developed a protocol and a probe to utilize diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS) to characterize microvascular blood flow changes in the APB during and after sustained isometric exercise, during and after thumb abduction at at 55% of maximum voluntary contraction (MVC). Blood flow in the APB decreased during exercise in the subjects (n=13) with high MVC (n=7) and stayed constant in the ones with low MVC (n=6) suggesting that the mechanical occlusion due to increased intramuscular pressure exceeded the vasodilation elicited by the…
Pulmonale Thrombendarteriektomie bei thromboembolischer pulmonaler Hypertonie: Indikationen und Frühergebnisse
2008
Pulmonary thrombendarterectomy was performed in 32 patients (14 men and 18 women; mean age 38 +/- 15 years) with thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (New York Heart Association stage III: n = 22; stage IV: n = 10). The preoperative arterial pO2 averaged 59 +/- 11 mm Hg; pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) and mean pressure (MPAP) were increased to 1,045 +/- 430 dyn.s.cm-5 and 53 +/- 12 mm Hg, respectively. The perioperative death rate was 22% (7 of 32). In the 25 survivors the pulmonary hypertension was reduced to a PVR of 194 +/- 75 dys.s.cm-5, MPAP of 28 +/- 6 mm Hg. Subsequent re-examination in 15 patients (NYHA stage I: n = 14, stage II: n = 1) after a mean of 17 +/- 5 months demonstr…
Positive airway pressure level based upper airway collapsibility classification - the European Sleep Apnea Database (ESADA)
2021
Background and objectives: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients with mild upper airway collapsibility represents a target group for potential non-positive airway pressure (PAP) treatment. We studied the clinical characteristics of this endotypic group in a large Pan-European sleep apnea registry. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed in 2541 OSA patients with fixed PAP treatment (male 74%, age 53±11 years, body mass index [BMI] 33±6 kg/m2, apnea-hypopnea index [AHI] 41±25 events/h at baseline). Therapeutic PAP level ≤8 cm H2O was used as the cut-off to classify patients with mild upper airway collapsibility (Landry SA et al. Sleep 2017; 40:6). Results: Mean pressure of the PAP t…
CRT-723 Is the Sporadic Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm the Result of an Inflammatory Process?
2014
Sporadic thoracic aortic aneurysm (S-TAA) is potentially devastating with severe morbidity and mortality. The histopathologic underlying abnormality of both ascending aortic aneurysm and dissection is medial degeneration, a pathological entity initially described as no inflammatory lesions of smooth
