Secretory breast carcinoma with metastatic sentinel lymph node

2006

Abstract Background Secretory mammary carcinoma is a rare breast neoplasia originally described in children but sometimes also found in adults. It presents a more favourable outcome than more common histological types of breast carcinoma; published literature in fact reports only a few cases with axillary lymph node metastases and only four cases with distant metastases. Clinical presentation In this paper we report a rare case of secretory breast carcinoma with axillary lymph node metastases in a 33-year-old woman. To our knowledge, this is the first case of secretory carcinoma involving biopsy of the sentinel lymph node and investigation of the e-cadherin expression. We found positivity f…

Management of a primary malignant melanoma of uterine cervix stage IVA patient with radical surgery and adjuvant oncolytic virus Rigvir® therapy: A c…

2020

Abstract Primary malignant melanoma of the uterine cervix is a rare disease with poor prognosis and high recurrence rate. We used Rigvir® as adjuvant therapy for a stage IVA patient. Tolerability, overall and progression‐free survival are good.

Gastric and Rectal Metastases from Malignant Melanoma Presenting with Hypochromic Anemia and Treated with Immunotherapy

2017

The authors present a case of an 80-year-old Caucasian male with multiple gastric and rectal metastases from malignant melanoma presenting with hypochromic anemia as the sole symptom of disease without evidence of cutaneous and ocular tumor localization. The patient had a medical history positive for malignant lentigo melanoma of the occipital region of the scalp and early stage laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma and prostatic carcinoma treated with radiation therapy. The authors make some considerations on intestinal involvement by metastatic melanoma and discuss the choice of not treating with endoscopic procedures the gastric metastatic lesions most likely responsible for the clinical sig…

Systemic chemotherapy and pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy (PIPAC): A case report of a multimodal treatment for peritoneal metastases…

2020

Highlights • Integration of PIPAC to systemic chemotherapy can have good tolerance profile. • Repeated biopsies performed during PIPAC allowed therapy-response monitoring. • Analysis of biopsies performed during PIPAC allowed tailoring of chemotherapy. • Integration of PIPAC to systemic chemotherapy can permit good quality of life.

Harmful Interference of Detoxifying Diets and Nutraceuticals with Adherence to Abemaciclib in Advanced Estrogen Receptor-Positive, Human Epidermal Gr…

2021

Many cancer patients use integrative therapies with a combination of natural products and diets. In the Western world, integrative medicine is often not shared with oncologists even during antineoplastic treatments. This behavior stems from the unmet needs of cancer patients who may feel oncologists’ underestimation of their symptoms and spiritual aspects. This case report demonstrates the potential harm of inadequate diet and nutraceutical intake in a 68-year-old woman with metastatic estrogen receptor-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor-2-negative breast cancer. Her care team recommended hormone therapy with abemaciclib plus fulvestrant. Her diarrhea started after 10 days of …

Rituximab plus chemotherapy provides no clinical benefit in a peripheral T-cell lymphoma not otherwise specified with aberrant expression of CD20 and…

2020

Peripheral T-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS) is the most common entity of mature T-cell neoplasms. PTCL-NOS generally has an aggressive behavior and is often refractory to standard therapy. Only a few cases of PTCL with aberrant expression of B-cell antigens have been reported so far. This phenotypic aberrancy may lead to misdiagnosis as B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas and eventual inappropriate patient management, whereas in an accurately diagnosed PTCL, the presence of CD20 may appear as an appealing therapeutic target. In this setting, response to anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody in combination with chemotherapy has been poorly explored. We describe the case of a 59-year-old …

The largest bilateral gemination of permanent maxillary central incisors: report of a case

2013

Gemination is defined as an attempt to make two teeth from one enamel organ. Bilateral presentation of this phenomenon is very rare, with prevalence of 0.01% to 0.04% in the primary, and 0.05% in the permanent dentition. This paper describes a rare case of huge bilateral gemination of permanent maxillary central incisors in a nine-year-old Iranian boy with poor aesthetic. The patient did not have history of anomaly in his primary dentition and in his family either. This type of dental anomaly can cause clinical problems in the form of malocclusion, poor aesthetic, and impaction of adjacent teeth, caries, and periodontal destruction. Key words:Gemination, central incisor, bilateral.

Synchronous occurrence of two lateral periodontal cysts in the same patient. Report of a rare case and review of the literature

2020

We present a case of a patient with two lateral periodontal cysts in the maxilla and the mandible, respectively, and review the English literature on multiple lateral periodontal (LPCs) cysts and/or gingival cysts (GCs) and botryoid odontogenic cysts (BOCs). The patient was a 59 year-old female with two fluctuant swellings covered by semi-lucent mucosa on the attached gingiva between the maxillary and mandibular right canine and first premolar teeth, respectively. Periapical radiographs revealed at the respective sites between the roots of the canine and first premolar teeth areas unilocular radiolucencies. Intra-operatively, the presence of bone cavities was confirmed at both sites. The mi…

Congenital lower lip pits : Van der Woude syndrome

2018

The Van der Woude syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant development malformation characterized by a paramedian lip pits and /or sinuses or conical elevation of lower lip associated with cleft lip and or palate. These congenital lip pits usually appear clinically in the vermilion border of lip, with or without secretion. The critical region of VWS has been identified to be at Iq32 to 41 with high, but incomplete penetrance and variable expressivity. Therapeutic intervention is generally required for cosmetic reason or when recurrent inflammation is present. Dental surgeon should be aware of this syndrome, as it is associated with variety of other congenital malformation. van der woude syndro…

Lateral periodontal cyst: A rare clinicopathological presentation mimicking a residual cyst

2022

This article describes an unusual clinical-radiographic presentation of a lateral periodontal cyst, as a differential diagnosis of a residual cyst, following the ‘CARE guidelines for case reports’. The radiolucent lesion was identified on the imaging exam of a 53-year-old male patient. Based on radiographic findings and aspiration puncture, the probable diagnosis was a residual cyst; however, histological analysis revealed a thin, non-inflamed fibrous capsule covered by some epithelial layers in most of the lesion. The definitive diagnosis was a lateral periodontal cyst with unusual clinical and radiographic features. The cyst was surgically enucleated and local bone neoformation was observ…
