Tämä laadullinen tapaustutkimus pyrkii selvittämään sekä opettaja- että oppilasaloitteisen huumorin roolia opetuksessa. Ilmiötä tarkastellaan eri huumorilajien kautta: ironia, kiusoittelu, leikinlasku, kielellä leikittely ja pilailu. Tutkimus on vertaileva, sillä tavoitteena on kuvailla oppilaiden luokka-asteen yhteyttä käytetyn huumorin määrään, huumorilajiin ja siihen onko huumori opettaja- vai oppilasaloitteista. Successful language learning depends crucially on the activity and initiative of the learner (van Lier 2008: 163).
