Combination of advanced oxidation processes and active carbons adsorption for the treatment of simulated saline wastewater
2016
Abstract In the present work, an integrated process combining three different technologies, i.e. heterogeneous photocatalysis, homogeneous ozonation and adsorption on granular activated carbon (GAC) was used for the treatment of a synthetic solution simulating saline wastewater. The synergistic effects between the different methods enhance the oxidation rate of the organic compounds in the integrated process, so that its use may result sustainable. It has been found that a relatively low oxidation rate is sufficient to obtain the highest synergy between the three technologies and to maximize the performances. In particular, coupling ozonation and photocatalysis resulted in 20% enhancement i…
124I Radiolabeling of a AuIII‐NHC Complex for In Vivo Biodistribution Studies†
2020
Abstract AuIII complexes with N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands have shown remarkable potential as anticancer agents, yet their fate in vivo has not been thoroughly examined and understood. Reported herein is the synthesis of new AuIII‐NHC complexes by direct oxidation with radioactive [124I]I2 as a valuable strategy to monitor the in vivo biodistribution of this class of compounds using positron emission tomography (PET). While in vitro analyses provide direct evidence for the importance of AuIII‐to‐AuI reduction to achieve full anticancer activity, in vivo studies reveal that a fraction of the AuIII‐NHC prodrug is not immediately reduced after administration but able to reach the major…
Inhibition of imidazolidinone intermediate formation in the aldol reactions catalyzed by zinc–prolinamide complexes
2011
Abstract The use of zinc salts as cocatalysts in aldol condensations catalyzed by single prolinamide (and in the extension by other more complex prolinamides) can prevent the formation of the parasitic intermediate imidazolidinone, with faster and also more stereoselective reactions than those catalyzed by the free amine. This new finding, together with this ion’s already known properties, make zinc salts highly suitable additives for aldol reactions catalyzed for prolinamide derivatives.
Chemoselective heterogeneous iridium catalyzed hydrogenation of cinnamalaniline
2020
International audience; Selective hydrogenation of unsaturated imines over heterogeneous catalysts is an ecologically feasible and effective way to produce commercially valuable saturated imines and unsaturated amines under mild conditions, avoiding the utilization of toxic halides. The liquid-phase hydrogenation of a model imine, cinnamalaniline, over Ir, Ru, Pd and Au catalysts was studied in polar protic (methanol, 2-propanol), polar aprotic (methyl tert-butyl ether) and non-polar aprotic (toluene) solvents at 40-80°C under atmospheric hydrogen pressure. Different metal oxides (Al 2 O 3 , ZrO 2 , SiO 2) and carbon composites based on carbon nitrides synthesized by pyrolysis of ethylenedi…
Selective Uptake of Cylindrical Poly(2-Oxazoline) Brush-AntiDEC205 Antibody-OVA Antigen Conjugates into DEC-Positive Dendritic Cells and Subsequent T…
2014
To achieve specific cell targeting by various receptors for oligosaccharides or antibodies, a carrier must not be taken up by any of the very many different cells and needs functional groups prone to clean conjugation chemistry to derive well-defined structures with a high biological specificity. A polymeric nanocarrier is presented that consists of a cylindrical brush polymer with poly-2-oxazoline side chains carrying an azide functional group on each of the many side chain ends. After click conjugation of dye and an anti-DEC205 antibody to the periphery of the cylindrical brush polymer, antibody-mediated specific binding and uptake into DEC205(+) -positive mouse bone marrow-derived dendri…
A Protein-Interaction Array Inside a Living Cell
2013
Cell phenotype is determined by protein network states that are maintained by the dynamics of multiple protein interactions.1 Fluorescence microscopy approaches that measure protein interactions in individual cells, such as by Forster resonant energy transfer (FRET), are limited by the spectral separation of fluorophores and thus are most suitable to analyze a single protein interaction in a given cell. However, analysis of correlations between multiple protein interactions is required to uncover the interdependence of protein reactions in dynamic signal networks. Available protein-array technologies enable the parallel analysis of interacting proteins from cell extracts, however, they can …
Layered double hydroxide (LDH)–organic hybrids as precursors for low-temperature chemical synthesis of carbon nanoforms
2012
A low-temperature route for the chemical synthesis of diverse carbon nanoforms, including nano-onions and multi-walled nanotubes, is described. The method involves thermal decomposition of a sebacate-intercalated NiFe LDH at 400 °C and benefits from the catalytic activity of FeNi3 nanoparticles generated in situ.
Fluorescence labelling of organic acidic compounds with 4-bromomethyl-7-methoxycoumarin (Br-Mmc)
1977
4-Bromomethyl-7-methoxycoumarin (Br-Mmc) is introduced as a fluorescence marker for aromatic and heterocyclic acids. To investigate the applicability of this method on substances of different chemical classes, screening experiments with 110 compounds were carried out using a microrefluxer. Most aromatic and heterocyclic monocarboxylic acids gave Mmc-esters which are fluorescent on thin-layer plates, like the Mmc-esters of fatty acids, which have been previously investigated. Strong acids, alcohols, amides and most amines did not react, whereas certain cyclic amines such as piperidine gave strongly fluorescent derivatives. Mmc-phenyl ethers shows only weak fluorescence. A new standard proced…
Glucosylation of isatin-3-oxime followed by 2D in situ NMR in plant cells at highest magnetic field without labelling.
2001
The glucosylation of isatin-3-oxime (1) was monitored by in situ 2D 1H-13C inverse correlated gradient assisted NMR spectroscopy in plant cell suspension cultures of Rauvolfia serpentina without labelling. The applied high magnetic field of 800 MHz allowed measurements within 20 min at concentrations of 1 of 5.76 mM. Complete glucosylation of 1 occurs inside the cells within 72 hours. During this time isatin-3-oxime-glucoside (2) accumulates without further metabolism.
Improved Photocatalytic Activity of Polysiloxane TiO2 Composites by Thermally Induced Nanoparticle Bulk Clustering and Dye Adsorption
2021
Fine control of nanoparticle clustering within polymeric matrices can be tuned to enhance the physicochemical properties of the resulting composites, which are governed by the interplay of nanoparticle surface segregation and bulk clustering. To this aim, out-of-equilibrium strategies can be leveraged to program the multiscale organization of such systems. Here, we present experimental results indicating that bulk assembly of highly photoactive clusters of titanium dioxide nanoparticles within an in situ synthesized polysiloxane matrix can be thermally tuned. Remarkably, the controlled nanoparticle clustering results in improved degradation photocatalytic performances of the material under …
