Ursane-Type Triterpene Saponins fromZygophyllum geslini
2007
Four new ursane-based triterpene glycosides, compounds 1–4, as well as the known glycosides zygophylosides E, G, and H, and 3-O-(β-D-quinovopyranosyl)quinovic acid 28-(O-β-D-glucopyranosyl) ester, were isolated from the BuOH-soluble fraction of the MeOH/H2O 7 : 3 extracts of Zygophyllum geslini (roots or aerial parts). Their structures were established mainly by 1D- and 2D-NMR techniques, in combination with HR-MS analysis and acid hydrolysis.

Target Analogue Imprinted Polymers with Affinity for Folic Acid and Related Compounds
2001
Two approaches to synthesize molecularly imprinted polymers with affinity for folic acid and other substituted pteridines have been compared. In the first approach, the folic acid analogue methotrexate was used as template and functional monomers capable of generating selective binding sites were searched in a miniaturized screening system based on binding assessment in the batch mode. Highest selectivity was seen using 2-vinylpyridine as functional monomer, which was confirmed in the chromatographic mode for a batch synthesized on a gram scale. However, the retentivity and selectivity of this phase were insufficient for anticipated applications. In a second approach, using methacrylic acid…
Experimental evidence for proton motive force-dependent catalysis by the diheme-containing succinate:menaquinone oxidoreductase from the Gram-positiv…
2006
In Gram-positive bacteria and other prokaryotes containing succinate:menaquinone reductases, it has previously been shown that the succinate oxidase and succinate:menaquinone reductase activities are lost when the transmembrane electrochemical proton potential, Deltap, is abolished by the rupture of the bacteria or by the addition of a protonophore. It has been proposed that the endergonic reduction of menaquinone by succinate is driven by the electrochemical proton potential. Opposite sides of the cytoplasmic membrane were envisaged to be separately involved in the binding of protons upon the reduction of menaquinone and their release upon succinate oxidation, with the two reactions linked…
A giant hybrid organic-inorganic octahedron from a narrow rim carboxylate calixarene.
2020
Here we discovered an unprecedented giant octahedral coordination compound bearing 16 Zn2+, 12 Na+, 8 O2-, 4 OH-, 13 H2O and 6 L4- ligands [L4- = fully deprotonated tetra(carboxymethoxy)calix[4]arene]. Its structure was elucidated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, wavelength-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. This compound, Zn8Na6L6⊃Zn8Na6O8(OH)4(H2O)13 (external⊃internal), has eight tetrahedral zinc ions forming the coordination vertices of an outermost cube where carboxylate groups from the sodium calixarenes are anchored. Its core consists of eight Zn2+, six Na+, eight O2-, and four OH- distributed over three layers, besides thirteen coordinated H2O molecul…
Control of the thermal reaction of a photochromic spirobenzopyran by the enzyme-like activity of albumins
1997
Abstract The thermal ring-opening reaction of a negative photochronic spirobenzopyran was investigated in the presence and absence of albumins. In the presence of the proteins, the formation of the merocyanine form from the spiro form is enhanced markedly by two orders of magnitude. The results for five different albumins indicate the enzyme-like activity of the proteins. The influence of pH, temperature and various ligands was examined in detail for bovine serum albumin (BSA) and human serum albumin (HSA). In particular, it was deduced that warfarin shows reversible purely competitive inhibition for BSA with an inhibitor constant K 1 of 1.6×10 −3 M. The results suggest that the catalytic c…
New Acylated Saponins fromPolygala myrtifolia
2003
The ten new acylated presenegenin (=(2β,3β,4α)-2,3,27-trihydroxyolean-12-ene-23,28-dioic acid) glycosides 1–10 have been isolated by successive MPLC from the roots of Polygala myrtifolia L. as five inseparable mixtures of the trans- and cis-4-methoxycinnamoyl derivatives, i.e., myrtifoliosides A1/A2 (1/2), B1/B2 (3/4), C1/C2 (5/6), D1/D2 (7/8), and E1/E2 (9/10). Their structures were elucidated mainly by extensive spectroscopic experiments, including 2D NMR techniques, as 3-O-(β-D-glucopyranosyl)presenegenin 28-{O-β-D-galactopyranosyl-(13)-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(14)-O-[D-apio-β-D-furanosyl-(13)]-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(12)-O-[α-L-arabinopyranosyl-(13)]-4-O-(trans-4-methoxycinnamoyl)-β-D-fucopy…
New Triterpenoidal Saponins fromGypsophila repens
2007
Six new triterpene glycosides, repensosides A–F (1–6, resp.), were isolated from the roots of Gypsophila repens L. Their structures, established by extensive 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopic experiments as well as MS analyses, were found to be based on gypsogenic acid (or gypsogenin) as aglycone, with three to nine branched or unbranched sugar moieties.
Triterpene Saponins from Four Species of the Polygalaceae Family
2005
Twelve triterpene saponins were isolated by successive MPLC over silica gel from four species of Polygalaceae: From Polygala ruwenzoriensis, five new saponins 1–5 of which 1–4 as two pairs of (E)/(Z)-isomers, together with the four known compounds tenuifoline, (E)- and (Z)-senegasaponin b, (E)- and (Z)-senegin II, and polygalasaponin XXVIII, from the genus Carpolobia, one new saponin 6 from C. alba and the known arilloside (11) from C. lutea, and another new triterpene glycoside 7 from Polygala arenaria. Their structures were established mainly by 600-MHz 2D-NMR techniques (1H,1H-COSY, TOCSY, NOESY, HSQC, HMBC) as 3-O-(β-D-glucopyranosyl)presenegenin 28-{O-α-L-arabinopyranosyl-(1 4)-O-β-D-…
