Organocatalytic enantioselective aza-Friedel–Crafts reaction of 2-naphthols with benzoxathiazine 2,2-dioxides

An organocatalytic enantioselective aza-Friedel–Crafts addition of 2-naphthols to benzoxathiazine 2,2-dioxides is described using a quinine-derived bifunctional catalyst. The method allows the use of a wide range of aromatic compounds as nucleophiles, including 1-naphthol and sesamol, and benzoxathiazines 2,2-dioxides, expanding the existing state of the art enantioselective synthesis of aminomethylnaphthol derivatives.

ChemInform Abstract: Elemental Bromine Production by TiO2Photocatalysis and/or Ozonation.

2016

Significant production of elemental bromine (Br2 ) was observed for the first time when treating bromide containing solutions at acidic pH, with TiO2 photocatalyst, ozone, or a combination thereof. Br2 selectivities up to approximately 85 % were obtained and the corresponding bromine mass balance values satisfied. The process is general and may be applied at a laboratory scale for green bromination reactions, or industrially as a cheap, safe, and environmentally sustainable alternative to the currently applied bromine production methods.

The palladium-catalyzed reaction of α-bromomethyl sulfoxides, carbon monoxide, and N-nucleophiles follows different reaction pathways according to the catalytic system and the reaction conditions. The Pd-xantphos catalyst affords high yields of α-sulfinyl amides by an aminocarbonylation process and is the first example of this type of transformation for a nonbenzylic sp(3)-hybridized carbon. On the other hand, the oxidative carbonylation of amines occurs with α-bromomethyl sulfoxides, carbon monoxide, and catalytic Pd(PPh(3))(4) under aerobic conditions, yielding ureas and oxalamides from either primary or secondary amines. Es wird die Herstellung von vier Azoverbindungen beschrieben, die sich zum Teil vom α.α′-Azo-(isobuttersaurenitril) ableiten. Zwei Verbindungen geben bei der Polymerisation von Methacrylsauremethylester und Styrol Endgruppen, die in den Polymeren photometrisch leicht zu bestimmen sind; fur eine wird gezeigt, das sie die Polymerisation von Styrol startet, ohne das storende Nebenreaktionen auftreten. Die beiden anderen Azoverbindungen sind wegen ihrer hohen Zersetzungspunkte geeignet, radikalische Polymerisationen bei hoheren Temperaturen auszulosen (160°C). The straightforward synthesis of a new donor-stabilized phosphenium ligand 3d by addition of bromodifurylphosphine to 1,3-dimethylimidazolium-2-carboxylate 1 is described. The obtained ligand exhibits a very strong π-acceptor character, comparable to that of triphenyl phosphite [P(OPh) 3 ] or of tris-halogenophosphines, with a v CO (A 1 ) at 2087 cm ―1 for its nickel tricarbonyl complex. This ligand, as well as the related 3a which was obtained from chlorodiphenylphosphine, were tested in palladium-catalyzed aryl alkynylation and in the platinum-catalyzed selective hydrogenation of chloronitrobenzenes, both in an ionic liquid phase. Adsorption of 5 L-arabinose tautomers – one acyclic and four cyclic (α and β, pyranose and furanose) species – on a ruthenium surface was studied as a precursor-process of the, nowadays more and more, industrially important sugar catalytic hydrogenation on metal surfaces in water medium.
