Calculation of Dependent Elastic Constants of Plastic Foams with a Pronounced Strut-Like Structure

2003

Seven dependent elastic constants of monotropic plastic foams with an expressed strut-like structure are calculated. For this purpose, the basic results of the previously elaborated mathematical model for light-weight plastic foams is used. The model includes a model cell of local structure for monotropic/isotropic plastic foams and an ensemble of structural elements, which allows one to calculate the seven dependent elastic constants, taking into account the pronounced polydispersity of the structure of plastic foams. The numerical values of the constants are compared with the available experimental data, and a satisfactory agreement is found to exist. As a final result, a full set of gene…

Structure of a bidisperse polymer brush: Monte Carlo simulation and self-consistent field results

1992

Using the bond-fluctuation model, Monte Carlo simulations are performed for polymer brushes composed of chains of two different chain lengths under good solvent condition. Profiles of monomer density and free end density, chain linear dimensions, and average monomer position along a chain are studied. Quantities measured in the simulations are derived from the analytic self-consistent field (SCF) theory and compared with the simulation data. The structural properties can be quite accurately described by the theory only when both the long and short chains are stretched

ChemInform Abstract: Dual Hydrogen-Bond/Enamine Catalysis Enables a Direct Enantioselective Three-Component Domino Reaction.

2011

A dual system, composed of an enantioselective enamine catalyst and a multiple-hydrogen-bond catalyst achieves the three-component enantioselective aldehyde—nitroalkene—aldehyde domino reaction using either two similar or two different aldehydes.

A new interpretation for the structure of the VN bands of ethylene

1971

Abstract Potential surfaces for CC stretch and CH2 twisting of ethylene obtained by the combined SCF CI method lead to the prediction that non-vertical transitions are responsible for the absorption maximum in the VN bands and that the broad diffuse nature of the spectrum in this region could well be caused by the proximity of two states of the same symmetry of the twisted molecule.

Designing a Low-Fat Food Packaging: Comparing Consumers’ Responses in Virtual and Physical Shopping Environments

2021

This paper aims to test to what extent emotional responses towards a low-fat product presented virtually converge with emotional responses toward this product when presented physically. Second, we want to probe if low-order emotions (physiological/unconscious responses) and high-order emotions (cognitive/conscious responses) converge to explain healthy product choices. To this end, 83 young participants were engaged in our experiment. Two packaging design variables were manipulated with the help of a real company (the color and the message), so that six different packages were created. Two different buying contexts were simulated: A virtual context and a physical context. Physiological resp…

Reproducing pairs of measurable functions

2017

We analyze the notion of reproducing pair of weakly measurable functions, which generalizes that of continuous frame. We show, in particular, that each reproducing pair generates two Hilbert spaces, conjugate dual to each other. Several examples, both discrete and continuous, are presented.

Would you fancy a premium five o’clock after the funeral? Application of Terror Management Theory in daily shopping decisions

2018

The present study has investigated how fear-of-death activation affected consumer food product choices. Undergraduate students (N = 130; Mage = 22.7; Meage = 21) differing on the conscious fear of death level participated in this study. The participants were divided into two experimental and one control groups. In first experimental group fear of death was induced by asking the participants to read an euthanasia story, in second experimental group by asking them to picture their own death. All experimental groups filled a fear of death personality measure prior to the experiment. Afterwards, participants had to indicate their usual shopping preferences, by choosing between several standard …

$PT$-symmetric graphene under a magnetic field

2016

We propose a $PT$-symmetrically deformed version of the graphene tight-binding model under a magnetic field. We analyze the structure of the spectra and the eigenvectors of the Hamiltonians around the $K$ and $K'$ points, both in the $PT$-symmetric and $PT$-broken regions. In particular we show that the presence of the deformation parameter $V$ produces several interesting consequences, including the asymmetry of the zero-energy states of the Hamiltonians and the breakdown of the completeness of the eigenvector sets. We also discuss the biorthogonality of the eigenvectors, which {turns out to be} different in the $PT$-symmetric and $PT$-broken regions.
