Polyaspartamide-polylactide electrospun scaffolds for potential topical release of Ibuprofen.

In this work, the production and characterization of electrospun scaffolds of the copolymer α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide-graft-polylactic acid (PHEA-g-PLA), proposed for a potential topical release of Ibuprofen (IBU), are reported. The drug has been chemically linked to PHEA-g-PLA and/or physically mixed to the copolymer before electrospinning. Degradation studies have been performed as a function of time in Dulbecco phosphate buffer solution pH 7.4, for both unloaded and drug-loaded scaffolds. 3D polylactide-based scaffolds for studying human hepatocarcinoma processes in vitro

We evaluated the combination of leaching techniques and melt blending of polymers and particles for the preparation of highly interconnected three-dimensional polymeric porous scaffolds for in vitro studies of human hepatocarcinoma processes. Macroporous Scaffolds Based on Chitosan and Bioactive Molecules†

Chitosan-based macroporous scaffolds for tissue engineering applications are developed by cryogelation in aqueous media. The cryogels obtained are modified using a new RGD-containing peptide developed in this laboratory. A RGD-containing peptide is chemically attached to the surface of the cryogels to improve cell adhesion to the 3D-structure chitosan-based scaffolds. The synthesis, physico-chemical, and biological evaluations of the system are described, and the optimization of the formulations is carried out by varying the reaction parameters. Mutations in the CETP gene resulting in defective CETP activity have been shown to cause remarkable elevations of plasma HDL-C levels, with the accumulation in plasma of large, buoyant HDL particles enriched in apolipoprotein E. Control over the adsorption of proteins and over the adsorption and spatial orientation of mammalian cells onto surfaces has been achieved by modification of glass and other silicon oxide substrates with poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM). The functionalization of the substrates was achieved either by a polymer-analogous reaction of aminosilanes with reactive N-(isopropylacrylamide) (NIPAM)-copolymers and by copolymerization of NIPAM with surface-bound methacrylsilane. Clinical manifestations of the anti-IgLON5 disease

Objective:To report the presentation, main syndromes, human leukocyte antigen (HLA) association, and immunoglobulin G (IgG) subclass in the anti-IgLON5 disease: a disorder with parasomnias, sleep apnea, and IgLON5 antibodies.Methods:This was a retrospective clinical analysis of 22 patients. The IgG subclass was determined using reported techniques.Results:Patients' median age was 64 years (range 46–83). Symptoms that led to initial consultation included sleep problems (8 patients; 36%), gait abnormalities (8; 36%), bulbar dysfunction (3; 14%), chorea (2; 9%), and cognitive decline (1; 5%). Porous titania surfaces on titanium with hierarchical macro- and mesoporosities for enhancing cell adhesion, proliferation and mineralization

Titanium received a macroporous titania surface layer by anodization, which contains open pores with average pore diameter around 5 μm. An additional mesoporous titania top layer following the contour of the macropores, of 100-200 nm thickness and with a pore diameter of 10nm, was formed by using the evaporation-induced self-assembly (EISA) method with titanium (IV) tetraethoxide as the precursor. Chemoenzymatic Synthesis of Functional Sialyl LewisX Mimetics with a Heteroaromatic Core

Functional mimetics of the sialyl Lewis(X) tetrasaccharide were prepared by the enzymatic sialylation of a 1,3-diglycosylated indole and a glycosyl azide, which was subsequently transformed into a 1,4-diglycosylated 1,2,3-triazole, by using the trans-sialidase of Trypanosoma cruzi. These compounds inhibited the binding of E-, L-, and P-selectin-coated nanoparticles to polyacrylamide-bound sialyl-Lewis(X) -containing neighboring sulfated tyrosine residues (sTyr/sLe(X) -PAA) at low or sub-millimolar concentrations. Except for E-selectin, the mimetics showed higher activities than the natural tetrasaccharide.
