Atlas of the Baltic Languages: Plant Names of Slavonic Origin The article investigates Slavonic-derived plant names in dialects of the two surviving Baltic languages – Latvian and Lithuanian. Historically, these Slavonisms were originally adopted by small-scale regional dialects, which are now disappearing. In 2009, a pilot study for the Atlas of the Baltic Languages was published. It comprised 12 geo-linguistic maps with Latvian, Lithuanian and English commentaries. 2012 saw the publication, in CD format, of the Atlas ’s first volume: Lexis 1: Flora . Resolving the Fe XXV triplet with Chandra in Centaurus X-3

We present the results of a 45 ks Chandra observation of the high-mass X-ray binary Cen X-3 at orbital phases between 0.13 and 0.40 (in the eclipse post-egress phases). Here we concentrate on the study of discrete features in the energy spectrum at energies between 6 and 7 keV, that is, on the iron K alpha line region, using the High Energy Transmission Grating Spectrometer (HETGS) on board the Chandra satellite. We clearly see a K alpha neutral iron line at similar to 6.40 keV and were able to distinguish the three lines of the Fe xxv triplet at 6.61, 6.67, and 6.72 keV, with equivalent widths of 6, 9, and 5 eV, respectively. The Centaurea busambarensis group is made up by eight species endemic to Sicily. We statistically evaluated a population found on the Nebrodi Mountain (NE Sicily) to verify if the observed morphological differences with the already known taxa justified the description of a new one. It resulted in being sufficiently distinct to deserve recognition at the species level. Centaurea valdemonensis, a new species endemic to Sicily is described and illustrated here. It is confined to the Nebrodi Mountains (NE Sicily). AbstractIn the present study, the chemical composition of the essential oils from aerial parts of Centaurea grinensis Reuter (K) collected at Žuta Lova, near Senj (Croatia), and aerial parts (L1) and flowers (L2) of C. apiculata Ledeb. collected near Rebro village, near Breznik town, Znepole Region (Bulgaria), both belonging to subgenus Lopholoma (Cass.) Dobrocz, was evaluated by GC and GC-MS. The main components of K were 4-vinyl guaiacol (21.5%), hexadecanoic acid (16.2%), acetophenone (12.5%). Caryophyllene oxide (15.8%) together with sphathulenol (14.5%) and humulene epoxide II (9.4%) were recognized as the main constituent of both the aerial part (L1) and flowers (L2) of C. apiculata. …
