Human-centricity is considered a central aspect in the development and governance of artificial intelligence (AI). Various strategies and guidelines highlight the concept as a key goal. However, we argue that current uses of Human-Centered AI (HCAI) in policy documents and AI strategies risk downplaying promises of creating desirable, emancipatory technology that promotes human wellbeing and the common good. We study the structure of the inner Milky Way using the latest data release of the Vista Variables in Via Lactea (VVV) survey. The VVV is a deep near-infrared, multi-colour photometric survey with a coverage of 300 square degrees towards the Bulge/Bar. We use Red Clump (RC) stars to produce a high-resolution dust map of the VVV's field of view. From de-reddened colour-magnitude diagrams we select Red Giant Branch stars to investigate their 3D density distribution within the central 4 kpc. We demonstrate that our best-fit parametric model of the Bulge density provides a good description of the VVV data, with a median percentage residual of 5$\%$ over the fitted region. In this paper mathematical modeling of a vehicle crash test based on a single-mass is studied. The model under consideration consists of a single-mass coupled with a spring and/or a damper. The parameters for the spring and damper are obtained by analyzing the measured acceleration in the center of gravity of the vehicle during a crash. A model with a nonlinear spring and damper is also proposed and the parameters will be optimized with different damper and spring characteristics and optimization algorithms. The direct asymmetric Henry reaction with prochiral ketones, leading to tertiary nitroaldols, is an elusive reaction so far limited to a reduced number of reactive substrates such as trifluoromethyl ketones or α-keto carbonyl compounds. Expanding the scope of this important reaction, the direct asymmetric addition of nitromethane to 2-acylpyridine N-oxides catalyzed by a BOX-Cu(II) complex to give the corresponding pyridine-derived tertiary nitroaldols having a quaternary stereogenic center with variable yields and good enantioselectivity, is described.

Pefloxacin in the Antibacterial Treatment of Immunodepressed Patients

Pefloxacin 800 to 1200 mg daily was given for 3 to 20 days, orally or intravenously, to 84 immunocompromised patients. Five patients dropped out because of side effects and 2 for other causes. Treatment efficacy was evaluated in 77 patients, 43 men and 34 women, aged 18 to 80 years. Immunodepression resulted from malignancy in 46 patients, LAS/ARC or AIDS in 28, and from unknown causes in 3. Fifty-eight patients had documented infections (respiratory-tract infections 29, urinary-tract infections 13, septicemia 10, other 6) and 19 had a fever of unknown origin (FUO). This study aimed to examine associations between suicide attempts (SA), suicidal ideation (SI), depression, dissociative symptoms, emotional abuse, physical abuse and sexual abuse, and to explore predictors of SA and SI, as well as possible mediating factors. We also aimed to examine support for a dissociative depression subgroup.
