Lixisenatide in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes and Acute Coronary Syndrome

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular morbidity and mortality are higher among patients with type 2 diabetes, particularly those with concomitant cardiovascular diseases, than in most other populations. We assessed the effects of lixisenatide, a glucagon-like peptide 1-receptor agonist, on cardiovascular outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes who had had a recent acute coronary event.METHODS: We randomly assigned patients with type 2 diabetes who had had a myocardial infarction or who had been hospitalized for unstable angina within the previous 180 days to receive lixisenatide or placebo in addition to locally determined standards of care. Aurora-A Is Essential for the Tumorigenic Capacity and Chemoresistance of Colorectal Cancer Stem Cells

Abstract Colorectal cancer stem cells (CR-CSC) are responsible for the generation and maintenance of intestinal tumors and are highly resistant to conventional chemotherapeutic agents. Aurora-A, a serine-threonine kinase involved in mitosis regulation, plays multiple key functions in tumor initiation and progression. We found that Aurora-A is overexpressed in primary colorectal tumor cells, in the CR-CSC fraction, and in stem cell–derived differentiated cells, compared with normal colon tissue. Polymorphism of immunoglobulin enhancer element HS1,2A: allele *2 associates with systemic sclerosis. Comparison with HLA‐DR and DQ allele frequency

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship of the polymorphic enhancer HS1,2 central to the 3' enhancer complex regulatory region (IgH3'EC) of the immunoglobulin heavy chain genes with systemic sclerosis (SSc) disease and compare it with HLA-DR and DQ associations. METHODS: A total of 116 patients with SSc were classified as diffuse (dSSc) or limited (lSSc), and as carriers of antitopoisomerase I (anti-Scl70) or anticentromere (ACA) antibodies. Allele and genotype frequencies were assessed in the population as a whole and in the two major subsets, dSSc and lSSc. HACD1, a regulator of membrane composition and fluidity, promotes myoblast fusion and skeletal muscle growth

International audience; The reduced diameter of skeletal myofibres is a hallmark of several congenital myopathies, yet the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms remain elusive. In this study, we investigate the role of HACD1/PTPLA, which is involved in the elongation of the very long chain fatty acids, in muscle fibre formation. In humans and dogs, HACD1 deficiency leads to a congenital myopathy with fibre size disproportion associated with a generalized muscle weakness. Weakly supervised alignment of multisensor images

Manifold alignment has become very popular in recent literature. Aligning data distributions prior to product generation is an appealing strategy, since it allows to provide data spaces that are more similar to each other, regardless of the subsequent use of the transformed data. We propose a methodology that finds a common representation among data spaces from different sensors using geographic image correspondences, or semantic ties. Il saggio restituisce un sintetico estratto del lavoro di ricerca compiuto sul centro storico di Marsala per la preparazione dello studio con “effetti costitutivi” previsto dalla legge della Regione Siciliana n. 13 del 2015. Il lavoro illustra l’evoluzione della struttura urbana e la lettura tipo-morfologica dei tessuti presenti nel centro storico, nonché alcune delle priorità per il futuro piano risultanti dall’analisi dello stato di fatto.
