The region of Valencia is the geographic link between southern and northern Mediterranean Iberia, between the Betis Valley and the islands of Ibiza and Formentera. Its strategic location is the reason behind the early Romanisation of Saguntum, Valentia and Ilici. They were neither large cities nor had costly monuments compared to Hispania as a whole; however, their interest lies in the fact that they display a model of integration into Roman lifestyles that preserves some traits from the local past, as can be gleaned from their reputation (see Sagunt) or their epithets (Valentia Edetanorum).
Boys learning craft skills : Rural artisan apprenticeships in early modern Finland

Research on handicrafts has generally concentrated on the study of urban artisans and guilds. However, not all artisans operated in towns, nor were rural artisans always small marginal groups. For instance, the majority of Finnish artisans lived and worked in the countryside. They had the right to take on apprentices; therefore, most rural artisans received their training from artisans working in the same environment. This article characterizes apprentices in the early nineteenth century in Finland and studies how rural artisans organized their occupational training. Abstract The history of the parishioners’ right to participate in and influence the choice of local clergy in Sweden and Finland can be taken back as far as the late Medieval Times. The procedures for electing clergymen are described in historiography as a specifically Nordic feature and as creating the basis of local self-government. In this article the features of local self-government are studied in a context where the scope for action was being modified. The focus is on the parishioners’ possibilities and willingness to influence the appointment of pastors in the Lutheran parishes of the Russo-Swedish borderlands in the 18th century. La devoció en terres de parla catalana a l'anacoreta sant Onofre es troba bastant difosa i compta amb nombrosos testimonis. Entre els literaris, en destaquen dos. Un, en català, publicat a principis del segle XVI, a València —anònim i amb clares evidències de ser un treball que recull textos elaborats en estadis anteriors—, i l'altre publicat a Barcelona —malgrat que obra del valencià Onofre Salt—, del 1620, i en castellà. Ens proposem veure les diferències entre l'un i l'altre i, encara, els punts en comú de dos textos devocionals hagiogràfics que es troben als extrems de la cruïlla de l'edat moderna: de l'edat mitjana al Renaixement, el primer, i ja al barroc, el segon.
Provincial Scientific Societies and Publishing: Centre and Peripheries of Publishing Science in late Victorian Britain

Publishing, albeit in many cases irregular, became one of the main activities of provincial scientific societies from the 1860s. In this way, the natural history societies and field clubs contributed to the inflation of scientific publications were thought to disrupt the progress of science. As a remedy, the creation of regional and regular periodicals instead of the publishing by individual societies was suggested. The appearance of the regional federations of natural history societies in the 1870s shows that the need to publish became even greater. Il contributo esamina quattro statue lignee, due delle quali inedite, custodite nelle chiese di Ficarazzi, piccolo centro delle province di Palermo. Si tratta di sculture realizzate tra la fine del Settecento e i primi decenni del secolo successivo, che vengono ricondotte per la prima volta al noto Filippo Quattrocchi e alla sua bottega, in particolare al figlio Francesco. The minority paradigm attributed to late 14th century storytellers reveals its insufficiency in the light of the most recent theoretical debate on gender.In the essay it is observed how the adoption of a narrative subject highlights, in the novelistic texts in question, an asymmetrical textual ratio, the mixture of literary and spoken language, are elements of an experimental tension. In the Autumn of the Middle Ages, the metamorphosis of the novel, considered in the face of contemporary figurative languages, also brings to light the dynamic game of plural and unitary, closed and open, as a founding trait of modern narrative processes.

This paper describes the study of human fibrocartilaginous entheses in a multiple indigenous sicanian Sicilian burial dated between VI and V century BC. The tomb, a cave burial, was altered by grave robbers. From the collected osteologic material it was possible to perform the sorting method and to extrapolate the NMI. The research was focused on the scoring and on the analysis of the Entheseal Changes (EC) of the long bones of upper limb and calcaneus; to extrapolate likely patterns of muscle activity according to the approach of the MSM applied in literature we have utilized the Coimbra Method.
