Tumor necrosis factor-alpha converting enzyme is processed by proprotein-convertases to its mature form which is degraded upon phorbol ester stimulat…
2003
Tumor necrosis factor-alpha converting enzyme (TACE or ADAM17) is a member of the ADAM (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase) family of type I membrane proteins and mediates the ectodomain shedding of various membrane-anchored signaling and adhesion proteins. TACE is synthesized as an inactive zymogen, which is subsequently proteolytically processed to the catalytically active form. We have identified the proprotein-convertases PC7 and furin to be involved in maturation of TACE. This maturation is negatively influenced by the phorbol ester phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate (PMA), which decreases the cellular amount of the mature form of TACE in PMA-treated HEK293 and SH-SY5Y cells. Furthermore…
Peripheral olfactory function in rats after chemotherapeutic treatment with the anticancer drug docetaxel
2008
International audience; Clinical studies have documented that chemotherapeutic cancer treatment in humans is often associated with weight loss and decreased enjoyment of food. Beside taste, olfaction plays a role in the food intake regulation. We assessed whether hemotherapeutic cancer treatment compromises olfactory function in rats treated with docetaxel (Taxotere, TAX), an antineoplastic drug which disrupts the structures necessary for cell survival and division. Electroolfactogram responses (EOG) can indicate morpho-pathological changes in olfactory epithelium. Male rats received either a single, two or three intravenous injections (one per week) of an estimated 10% lethal dose (LD10) o…
Isolation and identification of new anthraquinones from Rhamnus alaternus L and evaluation of their free radical scavenging activity
2018
From the butanolic and the ethyl acetate extracts of Rhamnus alaternus L root bark and leaves, three new anthraquinone glycosides, alaternosides A-C (1,4,6,8 tetrahydroxy-3 methyl anthraquinone 1-O-ß-D-glucopyranosyl-4,6-di-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (1); 1,2,6,8 tetrahydroxy-3 methyl anthraquinone 8-O-ß-D-glucopyranoside (2) and 1, 6 dihydroxy-3 methyl 6 [2′-Me (heptoxy)] anthraquinone (3)) were isolated and elucidated together with the two known anthraquinone glycosides, Physcion-8-O-rutinoside (4) and emodin-6-O-α-L-rhamnoside (5) as well as with the known kaempferol-7-methylether (6), β-sitosterol (7) and β-sitosterol-3-O-glycoside (8). Their chemical structures were elucidated using spectr…
Self-assembled dendrimers with uniform structure
2008
Calix[4]arenes substituted at their wide rim by four aryl urea residues (1) form hydrogen-bonded dimers in apolar solvents. Replacement of one urea residue by an acetamido moiety leads to calix[4]arene derivatives (5) which form hydrogen-bonded tetramers under the same conditions. Both self-assembly processes occur independently. Therefore, molecules have been prepared in which a tetra-urea calix[4]arene and a tri-urea mono acetamide derivative are covalently connected between their narrow rims by a long, mainly aliphatic chain [-O-(CH(2))(n)-C(O)-NH-(CH(2))(m)-O-] (7). In the presence of an equimolar amount of tetra-tosyl urea calix[4]arene () they form dendritic assemblies since the well …
Intestinal helminth communities of the long-finned pilot whale (Globicephala melas) off the Faroe Islands.
1993
SUMMARYThe intestines of 170 long-finned pilot whales, Globicephala melas, caught off the Faroe Islands (N.E. Atlantic) were examined for helminth parasites. Eight species were detected but only 4 occurred in at least 10% of the sample. No core or recurrent group of species were identified and no correlations between abundances of species were significant. Diversity values were far below those reported for other endotherms. Colonization by helminths was random, whales not being readily colonized. These features point to largely unpredictable, isolationist infracommunities, there being little potential for inter-specific interactions. Older hosts tended to harbour more diverse infracommuniti…
Insertion of isocyanides into the 2-one-1-propyl—palladium(II) bond: A convenient synthetic route to C1-palladated 1-amino-3-one-1-butene compounds
1984
Abstract Migratory insertion of isocyanides CNR (R = p -C 6 H 4 OMe, Me) into the palladium—carbon σ bond of trans -[PdCl(CH 2 COMe)(PPh 3 ) 2 ] (I) yields the 1-amino-3-one-1-butenyl complexes trans -[PdCl{C(NHR)CHCOMe}(PPh 3 ) 2 ] (IIa, R = p -C 6 H 4 OMe; IIb, R = Me), which have been characterized by IR, 1 H and 31 P NMR spectra. The reaction of IIa with nickel acetate gives a diamagnetic bischelate complex of the type [Ni(ON) 2 ] , in which the deprotonated 1-amino-3-one-1-butenyl moiety acts as a bidentate O,N ligand.
Organometallic complexes with biological molecules. XI. Solid state and in vivo investigations of some diorganotin(IV)-chloramphenicol and cycloserin…
1998
Abstract Diorganotin(IV) derivatives of chloramphenicol, {=D-(-)threo-2,2-dichloro-N-[ β -hydroxy- α -(hydroxymethyl)- β -(4-nitrophenyl)ethyl]acetamide (=Hchloramph)}, and D-cycloserine, {=(R)-4-amino-3-isoxazolidone [=Hcyclos]} have been prepared. The stoichiometries of the obtained compounds were R 2 SnClantib and R 2 Snantib 2 (antib −1 =chloramph −1 , R=methyl and phenyl; antib −1 =cyclos −1 , R=methyl). The solid state configuration of the complexes was investigated by I.R. and Mossbauer spectroscopy, from which structural hypotheses were inferred. In particular, the experimental data suggested monomer structures both for R 2 Sn(IV)Clchloramph and R 2 Sn(IV)chloramph 2 , in which chlo…
Acetazolamide-M(II) [M(II) = Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II)] complexes with ethylamine, diethylamine, triethylamine, and potassium hidroxide
1991
Abstract Complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) with dideprotonated Acm are synthesized and characterized. Acm acts as bidentate ligand through the N-sulfonamido atom and the N-thiadiazole atom except for K6CoAcm4·6H2O in which Acm behaves as monodentate through the N-sulfonamido atom.
A Co(III) complex of carbonic anhydrase inhibitor methazolamide and the amino-imino ‘aib’ ligand formed by reaction of acetone and ammonia
1993
Abstract Reaction of Co(NO 3 ) 2 ·6H 2 O with methazolamide {[ N -(3-methyl-5-sulfamoyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2(3 H )-ylidene)acetamide] (Hmacm)} and ammonia in acetone to produce [Co(methazolamidate)(2-methyl-2-amino-4-iminopentane) 2 (NH 3 )](NO 3 ) 2 ·2H 2 O is described. The ligand 2-methyl-2-amino-4-iminopentane (aib) is the product obtained from the condensation of two ammonia and two acetone molecules. The complex crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P 2 1 / c with a =16.713(5), b =9.180(1), c =20.273(1) A, β=97.44(4)° for Z =4. The R value is 0.081 for 2150 significant reflections. The Co(III) ion exhibits a nearly regular octahedral arrangement with the CoN bond distances in the …
Inhibition of pro-inflammatory enzymes by inuviscolide, a sesquiterpene lactone from Inula viscosa
2006
Abstract This work concerns the pharmacological activity of inuviscolide, a sesquiterpenoid from Inula viscosa. It exerts inhibitory effects on elastase, cyclooxygenase 1 and secretory phospholipase A2. Furthermore, it reduces the skin leukocyte infiltration in a murine model of dermatitis induced by repeated application of 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate.
