Molecular dynamics simulations allow to study the structure and dynamics of single biomolecules in microscopic detail. However, many processes occur on time scales beyond the reach of fully atomistic simulations and require coarse-grained multiscale models. While systematic approaches to construct such models have become available, these typically rely on microscopic dynamics that obey detailed balance. Online Estimation of Discrete Densities

We address the problem of estimating a discrete joint density online, that is, the algorithm is only provided the current example and its current estimate. The proposed online estimator of discrete densities, EDDO (Estimation of Discrete Densities Online), uses classifier chains to model dependencies among features. Each classifier in the chain estimates the probability of one particular feature. Because a single chain may not provide a reliable estimate, we also consider ensembles of classifier chains and ensembles of weighted classifier chains. Phase sticking in one-dimensional Josephson junction chains

In this regime, typical I-V curves of the samples consist of a supercurrent-like branch at low-bias voltages followed by a voltage-independent chain current branch, Ichain at high bias. Income distribution dynamics: monotone Markov chains make light work

This paper considers some aspects of the dynamics of income distributions by employing a simple Markov chain model of income mobility. The main motivation of the paper is to introduce the techniques of “monotone” Markov chains to this field. The transition matrix of a discrete Markov chain is called monotone if each row stochastically dominates the row above it. It will be shown that by embedding the dynamics of the income distribution in a monotone Markov chain, a number of interesting results may be obtained in a straightforward and intuitive fashion.

This paper describes the petrography and infers the provenance of siliciclastic rocks from the Upper Devonian of the Iberian Chains (Tabuenca, NE Spain), and outlines the tectonic setting associated with the Ebro Massif. These Devonian deposits are constituted by four different siliciclastic units: the Rodanas, Bolloncillos, Hoya and Huechaseca Formations. The provenance and diagenesis of over 400 sedimentary rocks samples are studied with a combination of petrographic polarizing microscope, scanning electron microscopy, atomic absorption spectroscopy, X-ray fluorescence and X-ray diffraction. Different genomic organization and expression of immunoglobulin light-chain isotypes in the rainbow trout.

cDNA studies have distinguished two isotypes of the rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) immunoglobulin (Ig) light chain (designated L1 and L2). This study characterized genomic clones of these isotypes. L1 genes are arranged in clusters with single copies of variable (V), joining (J), and constant (C) segments. The transcriptional orientation of the V genes is opposite to that of the J and C segments, indicating that the V genes must be rearranged by inversion. L2 is also organized in clusters, consisting of two or three V, one J, and one C exon, all in the same transcriptional orientation. Quantum-state transfer via resonant tunneling through local-field-induced barriers

Efficient quantum-state transfer is achieved in a uniformly coupled spin-1/2 chain, with open boundaries, by application of local magnetic fields on the second and last-but-one spins, respectively. These effective barriers induce the appearance of two eigenstates, bilocalized at the edges of the chain, which allow a high-quality transfer also at relatively long distances. The same mechanism may be used to send an entire e-bit (e.g., an entangled qubit pair) from one to the other end of the chain. DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevA.87.042313

Impact of a Three Amino Acid Deletion in the CH2 Domain of Murine IgG1 on Fc-Associated Effector Functions

Abstract Four murine IgG subclasses display markedly different Fc-associated effector functions because of their differential binding to three activating IgG Fc receptors (FcγRI, FcγRIII, and FcγRIV) and C1q. Previous analysis of IgG subclass switch variants of 34-3C anti-RBC monoclonal autoantibodies revealed that the IgG1 subclass, which binds only to FcγRIII and fails to activate complement, displayed the poorest pathogenic potential. Dermal dendritic cells, but not Langerhans cells, are critical in murine single epicutaneous sensitization

A murine repeated protein-patch model has been established to study epicutaneous sensitization in atopic dermatitis. This model has shown a predominant Th2 and a weak Th1 response in both BALB/c and C57BL/6 mice. However, Th responses induced in the repeated model are not consistent with the generally accepted theory that BALB/c and C57BL/6 mice are Th2 and Th1 prone and are representatives of human atopy and non-atopy, respectively.
