IQSEC2-related encephalopathy in males and females: a comparative study including 37 novel patients.
2019
Variants in IQSEC2, escaping X inactivation, cause X-linked intellectual disability with frequent epilepsy in males and females. We aimed to investigate sex-specific differences.

Assessing fat-tailed sequential forecast distributions for the Dow-Jones index with logarithmic scoring rules
2007
We use the logarithmic scoring rule for distributions to assess a variety of fat-tailed sequential forecasting distributions for the Dow-Jones industrial stock index from 1980 to the present. The methodology applies Bruno de Finetti''s contributions to understanding how to compare the quality of different coherent forecasting distributions for the same sequence of observations, using proper scoring rules. Four different forms of forecasting distributions are compared: a mixture Normal, a mixture of convex combinations of three Normal distributions, a mixture exponential power distribution, and a mixture of a convex combination of three exponential power distributions. The mixture linear com…
Typology of pentad circulation anomalies over the Eastern Africa - Western Indian Ocean region, and their relationship with rainfall
2005
International audience; The aim of this study was to classify the most frequently observed atmospheric circula- tion anomaly patterns in eastern Africa and the adjacent Indian Ocean. As an example of the useful- ness of such a classification, the second objective was to test whether these patterns account for intraseasonal rainfall anomalies in the region. A partitioning algorithm, known as dynamical cluster analysis, was therefore applied to the zonal (U)and meridional (V)components of the wind anom- alies, obtained from the NCEP-NCAR Reanalysis R-2 at the pentad (5 d) timescale. The 3 geopoten- tial levels 850, 700 and 200 hPa were combined. Focus is on the transition seasons (March to Ma…
CLIMATE CHANGES AND NEMATODES: EXPECTED EFFECTS AND PERSPECTIVES FOR PLANT PROTECTION
2011
Some factors interfering with plant protection from phytoparasitic nematodes are reviewed in the light of changes brought about by the global warming in action. The mechanisms mainly concern changes in temperature and water regimes. The effects of climate changes on the epidemiology and management of the main phytoparasitic species occurring in Mediterranean environments include the alteration of the reproductive cycles due to plants productivity, the geographic dispersion by more northern or higher altitude shifts, the spread of vectors. Other related indirect mechanisms are feedback effects due to the reactions of cultivated species or weeds, and those related to natural enemies. The pote…
Preparation of Polymer-Supported Polyazamacrocycles. The Role of the Polymeric Matrix in the Preparation of Polymer-Supported Polyazamacrocycles
2000
Different approaches have been studied for the preparation of resins containing different polyazamacrocycles. Preparation of monolithic resins by polymerization of vinylic derivatives of the corresponding macrocycles is shown to be a more versatile strategy for this purpose. The use of energy-dispersive analysis by X-ray has revealed to be a very useful tool for the rapid evaluation of the interaction of those materials with both anions and cations and has allowed the corresponding selectivity trends to be obtained in a fast and simple way. Important effects of the polymeric matrix are observed in some cases.
Widespread persistent polar stratospheric ice clouds in the Arctic
2016
Abstract. Despite a general decline in ozone depleting substances in the stratosphere due to the multi-national commitment to substantially reduce the emissions of their precursors, the magnitude of Arctic polar ozone loss has not decreased in recent years. Thus new observations at cold conditions can help to enhance our knowledge of polar stratospheric cloud (PSC) formation and life cycle which is of relevance for Arctic ozone loss. In the unique winter 2015/16, cold and persistent areas with temperatures below the ice frost point Tice developed in the Arctic stratosphere, caused by reduced perturbations of the polar vortex through planetary waves. Due to these extreme conditions, unpreced…
Statins and metabolic syndrome
2003
Abstract Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a multifactorial condition that represents a risk factor for the development of diabetes mellitus (DMII) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Statins may play a role on some modifiable clinical features of MS; in fact, whereas therapeutic lifestyle changes are mandatory for MS with a 10-year coronary heart disease (CHD) risk 20% and to correct the other associated lipid and non-lipid abnormalities. In fact, they have a VLDL lowering action in hypertriglyceridemia, they reduce the amount of small and dense LDL, they increase the HDL-C, they reduce the atherogenic lipoproteins, and they decrease the inflammatory marker levels.

Administration of recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEpo) improves performance and hence is subject to abuse by athletes. The detection of rHuEpo doping remains a major challenge at present. The aim of the current study was to investigate whether circulating microRNA (miRNA) can be used for detecting r-HuEpo doping. Twenty trained males received rHuEpo injections of 50 IU∙kg -1 body mass every two days for 4 weeks. Blood was obtained 2 weeks before, during and 4 weeks after administration. For this pilot analysis, plasma miRNA expression was assessed at selected time points using the Affymetrix GeneChip 3.0 and the miScript 384 HC PCR Array (Qiagen). For the Affymetrix microarray data, GC…
Adsorption of gaseous p-xylene and m-xylene on NaY, KY, and BaY zeolites: Part 1. Adsorption equilibria of pure xylenes
1995
Abstract Isothermal and isobaric adsorptions of p -xylene and m -xylene on NaY, KY, and BaY are studied by thermogravimetry between 25°C and 400°C, and 10 Pa and 1014 Pa. At low filling BaY shows a stronger affinity for xylenes than the other zeolites. At high temperature and low pressure its adsorption capacity is greater than those of NaY and KY. These two zeolites have a similar behavior and adsorb more m -xylene than p -xylene. At low temperature and high pressure KY adsorbs p -xylene like NaY and m -xylene like BaY, and, unlike NaY, the adsorption capacities of KY and BaY are higher for p -xylene than for m -xylene. The substitution of K + or Ba 2+ for Na + decreases the adsorption cap…
