New acridinium trifluoromethanesulfonate stacks induced in the presence of organotin(IV) complexes
2013
Abstract Three new crystalline architectures based on acridinium trifluoromethanesulfonate salts [C13H10N]+[CF3SO3]– have been isolated as single crystals from the reaction of the dimeric hydroxo di-n-butylstannane trifluoromethanesulfonato complex [n-Bu2Sn(OH)(H2O)(CF3SO3)]2 (1) with acridine (C13H9N, Acr), in dichloromethane at room temperature. When an equimolar mixture of anthracene (C14H10, Ant) and acridine is initially used, the crystallization of a sandwich-type arrangement occurs, leading to the intercalation of one molecule of anthracene between two acridium trifluoromethanesulfonate salt molecules. In the three X-ray structures reported, the crystal packing involves the contribut…

QSAR Modeling ANTI-HIV-1 Activities by Optimization of Correlation Weights of Local Graph Invariants
2004
Results of using descriptors calculated with the correlation weights (CWs) of local graph invariants for modeling of anti-HIV-1 potencies of two groups of reverse transcriptase (RT) inhibitors are reported. Presence of different chemical elements in molecular structure of the inhibitors and the presence of Morgan extended connectivity values of zeroth-, first- and second order have been examined as local graph invariants in the labeled hydrogen-filled graphs. By Monte Carlo method optimization procedure, values of the CWs which produce as large values as possible of correlation coefficient between the numerical data on the anti-HIV-1 potencies and values of the descriptors on the training s…
GNPS-guided discovery of xylacremolide C and D, evaluation of their putative biosynthetic origin and bioactivity studies of xylacremolide A and B
2021
Targeted HRMS2-GNPS-based metabolomic analysis of Pseudoxylaria sp. X187, a fungal antagonist of the fungus-growing termite symbiosis, resulted in the identification of two lipopeptidic congeners of xylacremolides, named xylacremolide C and D, which are built from d-phenylalanine, l-proline and an acetyl-CoA starter unit elongated by four malonyl-CoA derived ketide units. The putative xya gene cluster was identified from a draft genome generated by Illumina and PacBio sequencing and RNAseq studies. Biological activities of xylacremolide A and B were evaluated and revealed weak histone deacetylase inhibitory (HDACi) and antifungal activities, as well as moderate protease inhibition activity …
Mechanochemical synthesis of antifungal bis(benzoxaboroles)
2020
Several piperazine bis(benzoxaboroles) have been obtained both in solution as well as in the solid state. The environmentally friendly mechanochemical approach – hitherto not applied for the preparation of benzoxaboroles – was particularly beneficial in the case of two products afforded in low yields in solution. The in vitro studies showed high potential of the studied bis(fluorobenzoxaboroles) as antifungal agents, highlighting also the influence of the fluorine substituent position on their microbiological activity. The highest activity against A. niger, A. terreus, P. ochrochloron, C. tenuis and C. albicans was displayed by the analogue of the known benzoxaborole antifungal drug Kerydin…
Unveiling the oxidation behavior of liquid-phase exfoliated antimony nanosheets
2020
Abstract Antimonene, a monolayer of β-antimony, is increasingly attracting considerable attention, more than that of other monoelemental two-dimensional materials, due to its intriguing physical and chemical properties. Under ambient conditions, antimonene exhibits a high thermodynamic stability and good structural integrity. Some theoretical calculations predicted that antimonene would have a high oxidation tendency. However, it remains poorly investigated from the experimental point of view. In this work, we study the oxidation behavior of antimonene nanosheets (ANS) prepared by ultrasonication-assisted liquid-phase exfoliation. Using a set of forefront analytical techniques, a clear effe…
Increase in stability and change in supramolecular structure of β-carotene through encapsulation into polylactic acid nanoparticles
2011
International audience; β-Carotene (BC) exhibits controversial antioxidant properties as it may act also as a prooxidant. Its stability toward oxidation depends on its dispersion form and can be increased through encapsulation. In this study, oxidation of BC from synthetic and natural origins was investigated after dispersion in Tween micelles or poly lactic acid (PLA) particles. Two oxidation systems were used: autooxidation and oxidation by xanthine oxidase-generated-reactive oxygen species. Results showed that synthetic BC formed nanometric negatively-charged particles in both Tween micelle and PLA systems, whereas the natural BC sample used was shown to be already pre-oxidised, forming …
Oxidative stability of virgin olive oils
2001
An investigation was carried out on virgin olive oils of the Gentile (Larino), Gentile (Colletorto), Coratina, and Leccino varieties, harvested at different times, to assess their oxidation stability. The olive oils were analyzed by means of peroxide, K-232, and K 270 values at 1, 6, 12, and 18 mon of storage in green bottles, in the dark, at temperatures ranging from a mean of 6degreesC in winter to 12degreesC in summer. A subsample was also oven-tested at 75degreesC and then analyzed on a weekly basis using the same oxidative parameters. The less ripe the olives (harvested in the same area, during 1 mon), the more resistant the olive oils were to forced oxidation. The amount of total phen…
Cytoprotective organoselenium compounds for oligodendrocytes
2021
Abstract Herein we report the synthesis of peptide-like and tetrazole-based organoselenium compounds via Ugi and Ugi-azide reactions, respectively. The organoselenium compounds' intrinsic cytoprotective and antioxidant capacities were evaluated in 158 N and 158JP murine oligodendrocytes. Furthermore, their redox properties were theoretically evaluated using Molecular Operating Environment-docking studies. Most of the compounds did not exhibit any cytotoxicity against the 158JP and 158 N cells. Among the tested compounds, the tetrazole- (e.g., 6, 7, and 9) and the pseudopeptide-based organoselenium compounds (e.g., 11, 15, and 17) displayed antioxidant properties. On the other hand, the quin…
Antiviral activity of alginate-oleic acid based coatings incorporating green tea extract on strawberries and raspberries
2018
Foodborne illnesses caused by the consumption of berries contaminated with human enteric viruses, namely human noroviruses (NoVs) and the hepatitis A virus (HAV), remain a significant food safety concern. The objective of this research was to investigate a food-grade edible coating composed of alginate/oleic and containing green tea extract (GTE) as an antiviral agent for the preservation of fresh strawberries and raspberries. Berries were stored at ambient (25 °C) temperature and refrigerated (10 °C) conditions. Initially, the effect of the pH of the film-forming dispersions (FFD) on their antioxidant and antiviral activity was analysed. Then, the physicochemical properties of edible algin…
