Ionic Liquids on Demand in Continuous Flow
2009
We report on the development of an alternative protocol for the facile, solvent-free synthesis of various novel imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) that affords highly pure products without the necessity of subsequent purification steps. The continuous approach is based on the combination of HPLC pumps with a micromixer and a capillary residence tube. Our system provides a high degree of control over the alkylation reactions due to a high surface-to-volume ratio and superior heat and mass transport. Within the scope of our studies, we focused on ionic liquids containing differently substituted phenyl rings and characterized these compounds with respect to further use for direct applicatio…
Specific dye adsorption at oriented monolayers
2007
We studied the adsorption of water soluble cyanine dyes (pseudoiso-cyanine and “stains-all”) to monomolecular layers of arachidic acid at the water-air interface in a Langmuir trough. Fluorescence microscopy was employed to on-line monitor the formation of J-aggregates upon adsorption. Large two-dimensional monodomain single crystals could be grown by this self-assembly process with optical properties reminiscent of those found and extensively studied for amphiphilic derivatives of the same chromophors [12]. In addition to the necessary Coulombic interaction between subphasedye and target monolayer, we found that details of the crystal morphology also crucially depend on substrate parameter…

Soft hydrothermal synthesis of new microporous materials based on phosphate-like species
1994
ABSTRACTFactors controlling hydrothermal synthetic procedures are not well understood. A good knowledge of the solution chemistry of precursor species is the best reference for the design of rational procedures. Examples of the predictive character of simple models in order to rationalize complex syntheses are discussed in detail.

A version of DSC technique is proposed which ensures good accuracy in comparing the melting behaviour of two apparently similar samples. The information is obtained in the form of comparative thermograms recorded during simulataneous melting of both samples. The method is applied to observe the influence of cooling conditions and annealing on melting behaviour of low-density polyethylene.
