Raising the Profile of Sign Language Teachers in Finland

Sign language teaching in Finland has a long history. In contrast, sign language teacher training programs and research into the sign languages of Finland both know a short history. Due to this contrast, the field of sign language teaching nowadays can be seen as the ‘Wild West’. Till today, teachers from different backgrounds do teach sign language. We do not have a clear picture of what knowledge or competencies are expected from these teachers. In this article we would like to share our opinions about what the profile of a sign language teacher could look like in order to raise and advance the discussion and improve the quality of sign language teaching in Finland. nonPeerReviewed

The adoption of virtual synchronous machine (VSM) schemes for the control of power converters is gaining more and more attention both in academia and industry. The VSM control strategies fall into the category of grid-forming converter controls, and they are intended for a range of different applications, providing specific services and different kinds of support to the grid. Sensitivity Analysis and Frequency Dynamics of Grid-Connected Converters with Virtual Inertia

For the participation in the frequency control of the system, power converters can be controlled with different strategies and methods, sharing the common concept of virtual inertia capability. In this work, a sensitivity analysis of two main categories of converter controls with virtual inertia is presented. The considered schemes are a grid-following current vector control with additional virtual inertia block and a grid-forming control scheme based on virtual synchronous machine concept. An Upper Mississippian echinoderm microfauna from the Genicera Formation of northern León (Carboniferous, Cantabrian Mountains, N Spain)

For the first time an echinoderm microfauna is recorded from the cephalopod limestone facies (‘griotte facies’) of the lower Carboniferous (Mississippian) Genicera Fm. (Alba Fm.). The formation is widespread in the Cantabrian Mountains in NW Spain, but the ossicles are from some sections in the surroundings of the Bernesga valley in northern León. They have been derived from insoluble acetic acid residues from samples of the upper and especially of the uppermost part of the formation (Canalón Mb. and Millaró Beds). Vārdu krājumu novērtējums ar dažādu testēšanu paņēmienu izmantošanu

Darbā tika pētītas vārdu krājuma testēšanas paņēmienu priekšrocības un trūkumi un visefektīvākais un drošākais paņēmiens vārdu krājuma pārbaudei mācību apstākļos. Pētījuma rezultāti spēj veicināt izvēli par labu konkrētam testēšanas paņēmienam, saskaņā ar novērtēšanas veidu un mērķi, tēmu, mērķauditoriju un vidi. Darba teorētiskā daļa ir balstīta uz Arthur Hughes (2003), Scott Thornbury (2002), John Read (2000) un Penny Ur (1999) teorijas. Tässä artikkelissa tarkastellaan pedagogisia käytänteitä, jotka tukevat kiinnittymistä sekä kielen ja sisältöjen rinnakkaista oppimista ammatillisessa koulutuksessa. Tiimietnografinen haastattelu- ja havainnointiaineisto kerättiin ammatillisessa oppilaitoksessa kahtena lukuvuonna. Osallistujat ovat myöhään suomalaiselle koulupolulle tulleita maahanmuuttotaustaisia nuoria aikuisia. Näiden seitsemän opiskelijan lisäksi haastateltiin neljäätoista opetus- ja ohjaushenkilökunnan jäsentä. «Telemaco»: una ricerca sperimentale in prospettiva Student Voice

La ricerca «Telemaco» è stata svolta per promuovere una partecipazione attiva e responsabile degli studenti universitari alla didattica universitaria. A tal fine, si è ritenuto opportuno preparare tale partecipazione mediante l’applicazione di due metodi d’intervento con cui migliorare il loro senso di autoefficacia, la loro capacità di gestire l’ansia da prestazione e l’immagine del loro «sé» attuale: la scrittura espressiva e il tutoraggio tra pari. I risultati dimostrano l’efficacia di questi due metodi sulle tre competenze prese in esame. Experimental Validation of Maximum Constant Boost Control and Switching Frequency Optimal for three-phase Quasi-Z-Source Converters

This paper presents a modified modulation scheme for quasi-Z-Source converters, based on the Maximum Constant Boost Control (MCBC) concept and Switching Frequency Optimal (SFO) as reference signal. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is validated by comparing the obtained results (in terms of AC harmonic content and voltage stress) with those carried out from traditional modulation schemes. For this reason, a test bench has been assembled and the benefits of the SFO MCBC modulation scheme have been valuated.
