Theoretical Study of the Elimination Kinetics of Carboxylic Acid Derivatives in the Gas Phase. Decomposition of 2-Chloropropionic Acid

The reaction mechanism for the decomposition of 2-chloropropionic acid in the gas phase to form hydrogen chloride, carbon monoxide, and acetaldehyde has been theoretically characterized. Analytical gradients have been used by means of AM1 and PM3 semiempirical procedures and ab initio methods at HF and DFT (BLYP) levels with the 6-31G** basis set. The correlation effects were also included by using the perturbational approach at the MP2 level with the 6-31G** and 6-31++G** basis sets and the variational approach at the CISD/6-31G** level and by means of MCSCF wave functions with a (6,6) complete active space and the 6-31G** basis set. <strong>Synthesis and Platinum (II) Complexes of Different Polyazacyclophane Receptors</strong>

During the last years, research on coordination chemistry of platinum has aroused great interest due to their potential biological applications. Herein, we report the interaction of PtCI42- with different polyazacyclophanes containing a pyridine unit as aromatic spacer. Formation of complexes has been studied by 1H and 195Pt NMR spectroscopy. Analysis of the recorded spectra of D2O solutions containing L and PtCl42- in a 1:1 molar ratio at acidic pH shows the evolution with time of the 1H and 195Pt signals. Lithium Ion Recognition with Nanofluidic Diodes through Host-Guest Complexation in Confined Geometries

[EN] The lithium ion recognition is receiving significant attention because of its application in pharmaceuticals, lubricants and, especially, in energy technology. We present a nanofluidic device for specific lithium ion recognition via host guest complexation in a confined environment. A lithium-selective receptor molecule, the aminoethyl-benzo-12-crown-4 (BC12C4-NH2), is designed and functionalized on single conical nanopores in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) membranes. Binding abilities of new cyclodextrin-cucurbituril supramolecular hosts

Various combined techniques (UV–vis spectrophotometry, isothermal titration calorimetry, thermogravimetry, ESI-MS mass spectrometry, polarimetry and 1H NMR spectroscopy) were used in order to study the interaction between a new combined supramolecular host, namely a bow-tie-structured cyclodextrin–cucurbituril association solely held by non-covalent interactions, and a suitably selected guest, namely the N-(p-nitrophenyl)-1,8-diaminooctane hydrochloride. In particular, the use of different techniques highlighted the peculiar features of the possible host–guest supramolecular interactions under different concentration conditions.

Mechanisms of Glial Swelling by Arachidonic Acid

The effect of arachidonic acid (AA, 20:4) was analyzed in vitro by employment of C6 glioma cells and astrocytes from primary culture. The cells were suspended in an incubation chamber under continuous control of pH, pO2, and temperature. Cell swelling was quantified by flow cytometry. After a control period, the suspension was added with AA at concentrations of 0.01 to 1.0 mM. Administration of AA induced an immediate, dose dependent swelling in C6 glioma cells or astrocytes. AA-concentrations of 0.01 mM led to an increase of the glial cell volume to 103.0 ± 1.0% of control, 0.1 mM to 110.0 ± 1.5%, and l.0 mM to 118.8 ± 1.5% within 10 min. Abstract Amino acid hydrochlorides are well transported through 1-decanol membranes containing Kryptofix 5 or 222 and supported in a porous polyacrylonitrile hollow fiber matrix. Factors which influence the transport of phenylalanine hydrochloride were studied in some detail using this sheet- as well as hollow fibre-supported liquid membranes. These studies show that the choice of the membrane phase, the kind of polymeric support and the mode of membrane preparation are of great importance for the efficiency of the process. Abstract Reaction of the zirconium tetrachloride with one equivalent of the sodium salt of the diamine bis (phenolate) ligand, L1H2 (Me2NCH2CH2N-(CH2-2-OH-3,5-tBu-C6H2)2) or L2H2 (Me2NCH2CH2N-(CH2-2-OH-3,5-tBu-C6H2)(CH2-2-OH-C6H4)) in the presence of air led to formation of [Lig1ZrCl]2(μ-O) and [Lig2ZrCl]2(μ-O), respectively. Recognition of Viologen Derivatives in Water by N-Alkyl Ammonium Resorcinarene Chlorides

Three water-soluble N-alkyl ammonium resorcinarene chlorides decorated with terminal hydroxyl groups at the lower rims were synthesized and characterized. The receptors were decorated at the upper rim with either terminal hydroxyl, rigid cyclohexyl, or flexible benzyl groups. The binding affinities of these receptors toward three viologen derivatives, two of which possess an acetylmethyl group attached to one of the pyridine nitrogens, in water were investigated via 1H NMR spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). Iron(III) Chloride as a Mild Catalyst for the Dearomatizing Cyclization of N-Acylindoles

A catalytic approach for the preparation of indolines by dearomatizing cyclization is presented. FeCl3 acts as a catalyst to afford tetracyclic 5a,6-dihydro-12H-indolo[2,1-b][1,3]benzoxazin-12-ones in good yields. The cyclization also proceeds with tosylamides forming C-N bonds in 53% yield.
