Antispasmodic effect of 4'-methylepigallocatechin on guinea pig ileum.

AbstractThe antispasmodic effect of 4′-methylepigallocatechin (MEC), which was isolated from Maytenus rigida Mart (Celestraceae), was investigated in vitro in guinea pig intestinal segments. In the isolated ileum, MEC (1 nM–100μM) did not modify the ileal spontaneous tonus or the electrically elicited contractions. MEC (8μM) significantly (p<0.01) reduced the submaximal contractions induced by histamine (2μM), carbachol (100μM) and BaCl2 (0.03M). An additive relaxing action (p<0.001) was observed by co-incubation of verapamil (10 nM) and MEC (8μM). Superoxide Flux in Endothelial Cells via the Chloride Channel-3 Mediates Intracellular Signaling

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have been implicated in both cell signaling and pathology. A major source of ROS in endothelial cells is NADPH oxidase, which generates superoxide (O2.−) on the extracellular side of the plasma membrane but can result in intracellular signaling. To study possible transmembrane flux of O2.−, pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells were preloaded with the O2.−-sensitive fluorophore hydroethidine (HE). High atomic yield bromine-less benzylic bromination

A two-phase mixture (sodium bromide, aqueous hydrogen peroxide/carbon tetrachloride or chloroform) under visible light provides a simple and convenient system for benzylic bromination of toluenes. A high atomic yield for bromine atoms is attained. Substitution of the chlorinated solvents by other more environmentally benign organic solvents has been attempted and good results are obtained for methyl pivalate.

Korrosionsschichten auf Stahl nach Exposition in Wasser mit bestimmter Harte und Chloridgehalt wurden hinsichtlich der Wirksamkeit beigefugter organischer Inhibitoren mittels Mosbauer- und ESCA-Spektroskopie untersucht. Es entstehen relativ dicke Schichten mit einem unerwartet niedrigen Eisengehalt in Form von FeOOH. Die Schichten enthalten merkliche Mengen von Ionen aus der Testlosung und auch Abbauprodukte der Inhibitormolekule. Letztere werden anscheinend in dem korrosiven Medium zersetzt. Photocatalytic Oxidation of Cyanides in Aqueous Titanium Dioxide Suspensions

The photocatalytic oxidation of free cyanides in aqueous suspensions containing polycrystalline TiO2(anatase) powders irradiated in the near-UV region has been investigated. The rate of cyanide photooxidation has been studied by varying the following operative parameters: (i) initial cyanide concentration; (ii) catalyst concentration; (iii) initial pH; (iv) power of irradiation; and (v) chloride ion concentration in the reacting mixture. Oxalate and 2,2′-bipyrimidine as bis-chelating ligands in the honeycomb layered compound {[Fe2(bpym)(ox)2]·5H2O}n

The novel two-dimensional iron(II) compound of formula {[Fe2(bpym)(ox)2]·5H2O}n (1) [bpym = 2,2′-bipyrimidine and ox = oxalate dianion] is obtained by reaction of oxalic acid, iron(II) chloride and 2,2′-bipyrimidine in aqueous solution. The structure of 1 is made up of oxalato-bridged iron(II) chains cross-linked by bischelating bpym affording a honeycomb lattice. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility data of 1 show the occurrence of relatively large antiferromagnetic interactions between the high spin iron(II) ions separated by more than 5.5 A through bridging bpym [Jbpym = −4.0(2) cm−1] and ox [Jox = ca. −7.8(2) cm−1] ligands. Protonation thermodynamics of 2,2'-bipyridyl in aqueous solution. Salt effects and weak complex formation

Abstract Protonation constants of 2,2'-bipyridyl (bipy) have been determined potentiometrically, using (H + )-glass electrode, in different aqueous media (alkali and alkaline earth chlorides, tetramethylammonium chloride and tetramethylammonium iodide) at different temperatures and ionic strengths. The differences in log K H values are explained using a complex formation model. Formation thermodynamic parameters are given.

Partial molar volumes of cobalt(II) chloride in ethanol + water at 298.15 K

Densities of ethanol + water + cobalt(II) chloride mixtures have been measured with an oscillating-tube densimeter over a large range of concentrations of salt, at 298.15 K. From these densities, apparent molar volumes of the electrolyte in these mixtures have been calculated, and partial molar volumes at infinite dilution have been evaluated, at different concentrations of alcohol in the solvent.

The heterotrimetallic Au(I)–Cu(I) aggregate [{Au3Cu2(C2C6H4Fc)6}Au3(PPh2C6H4PPh2)3](PF6)2 exhibits a well-defined solid state electrochemistry in contact with aqueous media, based on ferrocenyl-centred oxidation processes involving anion insertion. Upon attachment of microparticulate deposits of the cluster to graphite electrodes, distinctive electrochemical responses can be obtained for fluoride and chloride ions in aqueous media. Apparent molar volumes of lithium nitrate in 1-propanol + water in the temperature range from 288.15 to 318.15 K

Abstract Densities of 1-propanol+water+lithium chloride mixtures have been measured with an oscillating-tube densimeter over a large range of concentrations of the salt and 1-propanol at 288.15, 298.15, 308.15, and 318.15 K. From these densities, apparent molar volumes of lithium chloride in 1-propanol+water mixtures have been calculated for each temperature, and apparent molar volumes at infinite dilution have been evaluated. An empirical correlation for partial molar volumes of lithium chloride in 1-propanol+water mixtures with solvent composition and temperature has been derived.
