Examination of the shock wave regular reflexion phenomenon in a rarefied supersonic plasma flow

The flow properties of a low-pressure weakly ionized supersonic argon plasma jet are examined using Fabry–Perot interferometry and laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy. The flow velocity and equilibrium temperature measured at the torch nozzle exit are in close agreement with computational fluid dynamics calculations. The model also predicts the plasma flow to be in a rarefied regime. Departure from thermal equilibrium is indeed observed behind the nozzle where the parallel temperature differs significantly from the perpendicular temperature. New Polylactic Acid Composites Reinforced with Artichoke Fibers

In this work, artichoke fibers were used for the first time to prepare poly(lactic acid) (PLA)-based biocomposites. In particular, two PLA/artichoke composites with the same fiber loading (10% w/w) were prepared by the film-stacking method: the first one (UNID) reinforced with unidirectional long artichoke fibers, the second one (RANDOM) reinforced by randomly-oriented long artichoke fibers. Kinetic Monte Carlo Simulations of Flow-Assisted Polymerization

We performed kinetic Monte Carlo simulations on a model of a polymerization process in the presence of a periodic oscillatory flow to explore the role of mixing in polymerization reactors. Application of an oscillatory flow field helps overcome the diffusive limitations that develop during a polymerization process due to an increase in the molecular weights of polymer chains, thereby giving rise to high rates of polymerization. A systematic increase in the flow strength results in a "dynamic" coil-stretch transition, leading to an elongation of polymer chains. Purpose – The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of temperature and action time on the extraction rate of carbohydrates of Jerusalem artichoke concentrate powder and inactivation of inulin during boiling and sterilization.Design/methodology/approach – Water suspension of Jerusalem artichoke concentrate (5g/100ml) at 25, 50 and 100○C was tested after 5, 15, 30 and 60min to determine the content of inulin, glucose, fructose and sucrose and evaluate the extraction rate. Optimization of Spray-Drying Process of

Jerusalem artichoke is an important natural matrix for inulin production. In this experiment, response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to optimize the spray-drying parameters in order to determine the maximal inulin yield. For this study, three independent variables (heating temperature (Tª, 110–120 °C), creep speed (V, 18–22 rpm) and pressure (P, 0.02–0.04 MPa)) were used in the experimental design. Using the Box–Behnken design, the optimal parameters obtained were: drying temperature 114.6 °C, creep speed 20.02 rpm, and pressure: 0.03 MPa.
