Muscat is a grape family used to obtain several sweet, aromatic white dessert wines common in the Mediterranean area. Currently, three Sicilian cultivars (all classified DOC) are known: 'Moscato di Siracusa' the oldest and very rare today; 'Moscato di Noto', a modern derivative of the first and finally 'Moscato di Pantelleria', now the most common. Chemical Composition and Antibacterial Potential of Artemisia arborescens L. Essential Oil

This study was undertaken to characterize the essential oil (EO) of Artemisia arborescens growing wild in Sicily. EO, extracted by steam distillation, was examined for its chemical composition and for its capability to inhibit some food-borne pathogen bacteria. A total of 43 compounds (13 monoterpene hydrocarbons, 14 oxygenated monoterpenes, 10 sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, three oxygenated sesquiterpenes and less amount of other three compounds), which account 93.73% of the total oil, were identified by gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Abstract Background: The deposition of cannabinoids on/into hair from environmental smoke can be considered as a potential source of drug findings in hair. We studied external uptake of cannabinoids from marijuana smoke, investigating possible influencing factors on drug uptake and the efficiency of decontamination procedures. Methods: Strands of a natural hair sample were moistened with water, greased with sebum or sebum/sweat, or bleached or permed. Abstract A sensitive analytical method to concentrate and determine extensively used UV filters in cosmetic products at (ultra)trace levels in water samples is presented. The method is based on a sample treatment using dispersive solid-phase extraction (dSPE) with laboratory-made chemisorbed oleic acid-coated cobalt ferrite (CoFe 2 O 4 @oleic acid) magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) as optimized sorbent for the target analytes. This work describes a sensitive and rapid analytical method for trace determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in cosmetic samples. The proposed method is based on stir bar sorptive-dispersive microextraction (SBSDME). A magnetic composite made of CoFe2O4 magnetic nanoparticles embedded into reduced graphene oxide sheets is used as sorbent phase. Potent Aroma Compounds of Two Red Wine Vinegars

Gas chromatography olfactometry (GCO) was used to determine key aroma compounds of two red wine vinegars. Sensory analysis was performed to choose the best neutralization agent of acetic acid (NaOH or MgO) and to test representativeness of four extracts obtained by different methods (dichloromethane extraction, XAD-2, mixture of XAD-2 and XAD-7, and Extrelut resins extraction). Neutralization with NaOH followed by dichloromethane extraction was selected to extract volatile compounds of vinegars. GHB related acids are useful in routine casework of suspected GHB intoxication cases

Abstract GHB related acids (3,4-dihydroxy butyric acid, 2,4-dihydroxy butyric acid and glycolic acid) are produced through oxidative GHB metabolism. These analytes could be potential biomarkers to ensure the diagnosis of a GHB intoxication and even prolong the detection window. Within this study, forensic routine cases were measured to consider the potential of additional gas chromatographic mass spectrometric analysis on these acids. 17 GHB positive real cases (10 serum samples and 7 urine samples) and 40 cases with suspicion of drugging in DFC cases and negative GHB results (21 serum samples and 19 urine samples) were evaluated. Addition of pasture plant essential oil in milk: Influence on chemical and sensory properties of milk and cheese

The aim of this experiment was to study the effect of the addition, to milk, of an essential oil (EO) obtained from the hydrodistillation of plants collected from a mountain natural pasture on the milk and cheese sensory properties. The EO was mainly composed of terpenoid compounds (67 of the 95 compounds identified) as well as ketones, aldehydes, alcohols, esters, alkanes, and benzenic compounds. Essential oil composition of Tanacetum vulgare subsp. siculum (Guss.) Raimondo et Spadaro (Asteraceae) from Sicily

Ninety-four components of the essential oils from aerial parts and capitula of Tanacetum vulgare subsp. siculum (Guss.) Raimondo et Spadaro were detected. alpha-Thujone, beta-thujone and 1,8-cineole were the main constituents of the oils. The analysis allows the assignment of this Tanacetum species to the thujone chemotype.
