Sputtering deposition and characterization of Ru-doped WO3 thin films for electrochromic applications

Mixed tungsten-ruthenium oxide thin films were prepared for the first time by dc magnetron co-sputtering technique and were studied by cyclic voltammetry, optical transmission measurements, Raman spectroscopy and the W L3 and Ru K edges X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) in comparison with pure WO3 films. The Ru concentration was varied in the range from 0 to 28 at.%. XAS results suggest that the average local structure around both tungsten and ruthenium ions remains unchanged within experimental accuracy in all samples, moreover, for tungsten ions, it resembles that of pure WO3 films. Morphological and chemical dynamics upon electrochemical cyclic sodiation of electrochromic tungsten oxide coatings extracted by in situ ellipsometry.

The sodiation–desodiation process of sputtered amorphous electrochromic tungsten oxide coatings in an aqueous-based medium was simultaneously monitored over 99 cycles by cyclic voltammetry and in situ spectroscopic ellipsometry. This allowed extracting the evolution of optical and geometrical parameters upon cycling. The resulting electrochemical coloring-bleaching process was dynamically fitted in the 1.8–2.8 eV optical range with a four-phase model including a constrained spline parametrization of the dielectric function. Unsere neue, einfache und akkurate colorimetrische Methode basiert auf Diarylethenen (DAEs) zur schnellen Detektion einer grosen Vielfalt primarer und sekundarer Amine. Die Sensoren bestehen aus aldehyd- oder ketonsubstituierten Diarylethenen, die selektiv ausgehend vom geschlossenen Isomer eine amininduzierte Entfarbungsreaktion eingehen. Somit konnen diese Sensoren zum gewunschten Zeitpunkt durch Lichteinstrahlung aktiviert werden und erlauben eine Empfindlichkeit der Amindetektion bis hinab zu 10−6 m in Losung. Zusatzlich ermoglicht die Immobilisierung auf Papier den Nachweis biogener Amine wie Cadaverin in der Gasphase oberhalb eines Grenzwerts von 12 ppbv innerhalb von 30 Sekunden.
Light-Activated Sensitive Probes for Amine Detection

Our new, simple, and accurate colorimetric method is based on diarylethenes (DAEs) for the rapid detection of a wide range of primary and secondary amines. The probes consist of aldehyde- or ketone-substituted diarylethenes, which undergo an amine-induced decoloration reaction, selectively to give the ring-closed isomer. Thus, these probes can be activated at the desired moment by light irradiation, with a sensitivity that allows the detection of amines at concentrations as low as 10exp−6 M in solution. In addition, the practical immobilization of DAEs on paper makes it possible to detect biogenic amines, such as cadaverine, in the gas phase above a threshold of 12 ppbv within 30 seconds. P…

Abstract Proton‐responsive photochromic molecules are attractive for their ability to react on non‐invasive rapid optical stimuli and the importance of protonation/deprotonation processes in various fields. Conventionally, their acidic/basic sites are on hetero‐atoms, which are orthogonal to the photo‐active π‐center. Here, we incorporate azulene, an acid‐sensitive pure hydrocarbon, into the skeleton of a diarylethene‐type photoswitch. The latter exhibits a novel proton‐gated negative photochromic ring‐closure and its optical response upon protonation in both open and closed forms is much more pronounced than those of diarylethene photoswitches with hetero‐atom based acidic/basic moieties. …

Abstract The new terpyridine derivative 4’-(tellurophen-2-yl)-2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine and its homoleptic Ru(II) complex have been prepared and characterized by different techniques (NMR, UV–Vis, mass spectrometry). Additionally, a thin polymer film was obtained through electrochemical oxidation and coupling of tellurophene moieties. The obtained organic coating showed very interesting electrochemical and electrochromic properties, thanks to its Ru(terpy)2 groups.

Poly(Azure A) (PAA) films doped with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) were grown on transparent indium tin oxide (ITO) glass substrates by cyclic voltammetry. The electrochromism of PAA was investigated by digital video-electrochemistry (DVEC). DVEC consists of the acquisition of sequential digital images during the electro-stimulated changes of PAA color. The evolution of red, green, and blue (R, G, B) colors intensity (I) of analyzed pixels provides enough sensitivity to detect changes of some nmol cm−2 of electroactive centers. Abstract Three novel compounds formed by the photochromic nitroprusside anion, [Fe(CN)5NO]2−, and the paramagnetic complexes [Cu(C19H18N6)]2+, [Ni(C6H14N2)2]2+ and [Ni(cyclam)]2+ are reported. The structure of [Cu(C19H18N6)][Fe(CN)5NO] (1) comprises binuclear complexes with a [Fe(CN)5NO]2− anion linked to a [Cu(C19H18N6)]2+ cation. The structure of [Ni(C6H14N2)2][Fe(CN)5NO]·6.5H2O (2) and [Ni(cyclam)][Fe(CN)5NO]·4H2O (3) consists of zigzag chains formed by an alternate array of the paramagnetic cations and [Fe(CN)5NO]2− anions.
