Analysis of archaeological samples and local clays using ICP-AES, TGâDTG and FTIR techniques

Abstract The spectrochemical and thermal analysis of different archaeological samples as bricks, terra-cotta and local clays were carried out. The concentration of major and minor elements of samples was determined by sequential inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. The method was tested by determining Si, Al, Fe, Ca, Mg, Mn, Pb, Cu, Zn, Ti, Na and K in the standard solutions and reference material GXR-4. Pharmaceutical properties of supramolecular assembly of co-loaded cardanol/triazole-halloysite systems

Halloysite nanotubes were explored as drug carrier for cardanol, which is considered as a promising natural anticancer active species. To this aim, besides the pristine nanoclay, a chemical modification of the nanocarrier was performed by attaching triazolium salts with different hydrophobicity at the outer surface of the hollow nanotubes. The interaction between cardanol and nanotubes was highlighted in solution by HPLC. This method proved the loading of the drug into the nanotubes. Properties and structure of cyanate ester/polysulfone/organoclay nanocomposites

In this paper, a cyanate ester (CE) matrix has been modified with polysulfone and an organic montmorillonite (Nanofil 919). The blend was thermally cured in presence of copper acetylcetonate and nonylphenol. The morphology of the cured materials was investigated by wide angle X-ray, scanning and transmission electron microscopy techniques. An intercalate structure of silicate platelets in the cyanate matrix has been obtained. Polymerization of an acrylate derivative of bisphenol-A by ionizing radiation in the presence of an organically modified montmorillonite was carried out in order to produce a flame-retardant composite. The measurement of the thermal effect during irradiation indicates that radiation curing of pure resin and resin-clay mixtures occurred in both cases. Moreover, differential scanning calorimetry and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis showed that a curing completion can be obtained by thermal curing after irradiation with a significant increase of the glass transition temperature. We have designed an innovative protocol for the consolidation of waterlogged archaeological woods by using acetone mixtures of halloysite clay nanotubes and a chemically modified colophony (Rosin). Firstly, we have investigated the thermal properties of HNTs/Rosin nanocomposites, which have been prepared by means of the casting method from acetone. The HNTs content have been systematically changed in order to study the influence of the inorganic filler on the thermal stability and glass transition process of Rosin. Complexation of biopolymers with halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) can greatly affect their applicability as materials building blocks. Here we have performed a systematic investigation of fabrication of halloysite nanotubes complexes with nucleotides and genomic DNA. The binding of DNA and various nucleotide species (polyAU, UMP Na2, ADP Na3, dATP Na, AMP, uridine, ATP Mg) by halloysite nanotubes was tested using UV-spectroscopy. The sorption and diffusion behavior of 8 x 10(-6) M Np(V) in Opalinus Clay (OPA) with synthetic pore water (pH 7.6) as mobile phase was studied under ambient conditions by batch and diffusion experiments, respectively. The Kd value determined by batch experiments with OPA suspensions is equal to 0.025 +/- 0.005 m3/kg. The diffusion-accessible porosity epsilon of intact OPA as determined by through- and out-diffusion experiments with tritiated water (HTO) is equal to 0.15 +/- 0.01.
