L’ampliamento come occasione di recupero della memoria e dell’identità
2012
We present the enlargement plan of an isolated cemetery in a small town of the west Sicily as it exemplifies some way to carry out the design for an “addition”. The enlargement faces a still readable and characteristic nineteenth-century building. Even introducing unavoidable innovative characteristics, the architecture we designed tries to resolve the difficult relationship between the new portion and the old cemetery, bell shaped, in steep slope above the town. The recovery of this place for collective memory, once realized as a closed enclosure, is realized by the mediation of a space which seeks to maintain, recover and reinforce the identity of places altered in the last years by uncon…
Aproximación al estudio del desarrollo educativo desde los Ayuntamientos y en el contexto español
2018
The article presents the main results of a study whose purpose has been to investigate the educational development of the municipalities through the actions implemented by the City Councils in the Spanish context. It contains the implementation and validation of a proposed model of stages for educational development, which has resulted in the literature review, 17 in-depth interviews, 2 discussion groups, the pilot implementation of the Model in 3 municipalities, and its validation in practice. Open-ended results indicate some key requirements for educational development: contextualized institutional approaches, flexibility of organizational structures, and a relational system open to innov…
Theories on Teaching & Training in Ethics
2008
The paper examines the education and training of adults in ethics. It applies to courses at universities and colleges as well as in the work place. The paper explores the evidence on our ability to strengthen moral behaviour through courses on ethics, finds it to be weak, so starts with the assumption that we cannot teach people to be ethical. The paper asks therefore what the objectives of a course could be and how best to achieve them. It examines the different theories in the literature, eventually settling on four objectives: increasing moral cognition; teaching a widening and strengthening of ethical practices; adopting teaching approaches that maximise learning impact, and developing …
La investigación empírica en materia de rendición y fiscalización de cuentas públicas.
2017
Keywords: auditing, disclosure, explicative theories, public sectorAbstract. The main objective of this paper is to analyze the theoretical framework to explain the reasons why public and private entities disclose financial information, as well as those applicable to studies of the types of opinion issued audit opinions theories. The existence of a legal regulation makes them the obligation to publish certain information, although some entities disclose more than required by the regulations. Therefore, following the traditional research in accounting online, we review the relevant theories that explain the financial disclosure in the public and private sector. We begin first with analyzing …
The genetic mechanism of fallness: St. Maximos the Confessor revisited
2022
Through a close reading of the two definitions of evil in the Introduction to Responses to Thalassios , this article points out a circular, cognitive-affective-somatic, genetic mechanism that St. Maximos the Confessor considers responsible for the initiation and transmission of the fallness as a human condition and the specific manifestation of it in the form of passions. It elucidates the first definition as mainly phenomenological, by identifying the circular mechanism and its behavioural expressions, and the second definition as more aetiological, by explaining why this mechanism emerges and reemerges with the fallen humanity despite its catastrophic results. Contribution: This article h…
Postfazione. Nuove enclosure, caccia alle streghe e spazi (trans)femministi
2022
Varieties Generated by Certain Models of Reversible Finite Automata
2006
Reversible finite automata with halting states (RFA) were first considered by Ambainis and Freivalds to facilitate the research of Kondacs-Watrous quantum finite automata. In this paper we consider some of the algebraic properties of RFA, namely the varieties these automata generate. Consequently, we obtain a characterization of the boolean closure of the classes of languages recognized by these models.
Assessing Stress Resilience After Smolt Transportation by Waterborne Cortisol and Feeding Behavior in a Commercial Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) Grow…
2022
Sampling protocols and water quality sensors have been developed to assess fish health and welfare in recirculating aquaculture systems (RASs). Still, the use of fish-based non-invasive welfare indicators, reflecting the physiological state of the fish, is limited in this type of system. Cortisol, the major stress-coping hormone in fish, diffuses through the gills. Consequently, waterborne cortisol is a potential fish-based non-invasive welfare indicator in RAS. However, its use in commercial rearing systems is sparse. In this study, we evaluated water cortisol levels and feeding behavior as welfare indicators of newly inserted smolt in a commercial RAS for harvest size Atlantic salmon. The…
