Asymmetric Allylation/Ring Closing Metathesis: One-Pot Synthesis of Benzo-fused Cyclic Homoallylic Amines. Application to the Formal Synthesis of Ser…
2013
A one-pot asymmetric allylation/ring closing metathesis (RCM) sequence for the synthesis of cyclic homoallylic amines has been developed. A library of six- and seven-membered benzo-fused products has been synthesized in good yields and complete diastereoselectivity. The new methodology has been applied to the formal syntheses of the antidepressant Sertraline and the epimeric Norsertraline. The methodology is amenable for the synthesis of analogs.
3D printed fluidic platform with in-situ covalently immobilized polymer monolithic column for automatic solid-phase extraction
2020
Abstract In this work, 3D stereolithographic printing is proposed for the first time for the fabrication of fluidic devices aimed at in-situ covalent immobilization of polymer monolithic columns. Integration in advanced flow injection systems capitalized upon programmable flow was realized for fully automatic solid-phase extraction (SPE) and clean-up procedures as a ‘front-end’ to on-line liquid chromatography. The as-fabricated 3D-printed extraction column devices were designed to tolerate the pressure drop of forward-flow fluidic systems when handling large sample volumes as demonstrated by the determination of anti-microbial agents, plastic additives and monomers as models of emerging co…
Response determination of linear dynamical systems with singular matrices: A polynomial matrix theory approach
2017
Abstract An approach is developed based on polynomial matrix theory for formulating the equations of motion and for determining the response of multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) linear dynamical systems with singular matrices and subject to linear constraints. This system modeling may appear for reasons such as utilizing redundant DOFs, and can be advantageous from a computational cost perspective, especially for complex (multi-body) systems. The herein developed approach can be construed as an alternative to the recently proposed methodology by Udwadia and coworkers, and has the significant advantage that it circumvents the use of pseudoinverses in determining the system response. In fact, ba…
Human brain evolution : how the increase of brain plasticity made us a cultural species
2016
Why are humans so different from other primate species? What makes us so capable of creating language, art and music? The specializations in human brain anatomy that are responsible for our unique behavioral and cognitive traits evolved over a very short period of evolutionary time (between six and eight million years). Recent evidence suggests that, alongside a reorganization of the brain and an increase in its size, neural plasticity may also play a major role in explaining the evolutionary history of our species. Plasticity is the propensity of the brain to be molded by external influences, including the ecological, social and cultural context. The impact of these environmental influence…
Closed injective ideals of multilinear operators, related measures and interpolation
2020
[EN] We introduce and discuss several ways of extending the inner measure arisen from the closed injective hull of an ideal of linear operators to the multilinear case. In particular, we consider new measures that allow to characterize the operators that belong to a closed injective ideal of multilinear operators as those having measure equal to zero. Some interpolation formulas for these measures, and consequently interpolation results involving ideals of multilinear operators, are established. Examples and applications related to summing multilinear operators are also shown.
Graphic Analysis Between Teaching and Research. Mario Ridolfi Unbuilt
2017
The graphic analysis in absentia, moving between thought and work, tries to track down, through digital surveys, a consistent path of design process. For many years now, the digital has changed the communication architecture processes that have always been areas of critics and representation. Architecture, indeed, can be told with texts, and new and unreleased representations wandering the sites of fruitful interaction between theoretical production and digital processing. The purpose of this study is to tell two projects, through unpublished images, about a little-known Ridolfi, through the close relationship between history, drawing and project.

Chthonic science: Georges Niangoran-Bouah and the anthropology of belonging in Côte d'Ivoire
2009
Georges Niangoran-Bouah worked assiduously toward Africanizing national education, academia, and public culture in Cote d'Ivoire. As part of this venture, his research projects, including his study of "drummology," can be regarded as a quest for "chthonic" science, that is, an anthropology that uncovers and implements the deep tenets of African-Ivorian culture. Properly situated in its academic, ideological, and political umwelt, we demonstrate, Niangoran-Bouah's anthropology of belonging is not merely an instance of "closure" but must be seen as a multiform attempt to recover a "local" position as a way to participate in universal-global science.
