This chapter is devoted to *-representations of partial *-algebras. We introduce in Section 7.1 the notions of closed, fully closed, self-adjoint and integrable *-representations. In Section 7.2, the intertwining spaces of two *-representations of a partial *-algebra are defined and investigated, and using them we define the induced extensions of a *-representation. Section 7.3 deals with vector representations for a *-representation of a partial *-algebra, which are the appropriate generalization to a *-representation of the notion of generalized vectors described in Chapter 5. A detailed carbon isotope study has been carried out on a Santonian (Upper Cretaceous) carbonate platform succession that crops out at Monte Sant'Erasmo (southern Italy). Previous centimetre-scale studies on this succession have shown that high-frequency eustatic changes, resulting from the Earth's orbital fluctuations, controlled the hierarchical organization of the depositional and early diagenetic features in elementary cycles, bundles (groups of three to five elementary cycles) and superbundles (groups of three or four bundles). Abstract This work presents a self-help, Internet-based telepsychology program for the treatment of public speaking fears. The system is comprised of 3 parts: The assessment protocol gives the patient information about his or her problem (i.e., amount of interference it creates in his or her life, severity, degree of fear and avoidance). The system also includes a structured treatment protocol, organized into separate blocks, reflecting the patient’s progress. In this paper, the flow-process of a slit weir was analyzed on the basis of a theorem of dimensional analysis and incomplete self-similarity theory. The theoretically deduced stage-discharge formula then was calibrated using experimental data obtained for a ratio between the weir and the channel width, ranging from 0.05 to 0.25. The deduced stage-discharge relationship allowed measuring discharge values characterized by errors that, for 98% of the measured values, were less than or equal to +/- 5%. This paper, the first of two, is devoted to a systematic study of partial *-algebras of closable operators in a Hilbert space (partial Op*-algebras). After setting up the basic definitions, we describe canonical extensions of partial Op*-algebras by closure and introduce a new bounded commutant, called quasi-weak. We initiate a theory of abelian partial *-algebras. As an application, we analyze thoroughly the partial Op*-algebras generated by a single closed symmetric operator.
A closed-form solution for natural frequencies of thin-walled cylinders with clamped edges

Abstract This paper presents an approximate closed-form solution for the free-vibration problem of thin-walled clamped–clamped cylinders. The used indefinite equations of motion are classic. They derive from Reissner׳s version of Love׳s theory, properly modified with Donnell׳s assumptions, but an innovative approach has been used to find the equations of natural frequencies, based on a solving technique similar to Rayleigh׳s method, on the Hamilton׳s principle and on a proper constructions of the eigenfuctions. Abstract Treatment of rat basophilic leukemia (RBL) 2H3-hm1 cells with Clostridium difficile toxin B (2 ng/ml), which reportedly depolymerizes the actin cytoskeleton, blocked [3H]serotonin release induced by 2,4-dinitrophenyl-bovine serum albumin, carbachol, mastoparan, and reduced ionophore A23187-stimulated degranulation by about 55-60%. In lysates of RBL cells, toxin B 14C-glucosylated two major and one minor protein. This study describes an Italian service, the Inter-institutional Groups Operating against child Abuse and Maltreatment (GOIAM), which specializes in the treatment of child abuse. The GOIAM service is composed of 53 professionals divided into four different categories: social workers, psychologists, child neuropsychiatrists, and psychopedagogists. With the aim of detecting strengths and weaknesses of the operative model adopted by GOIAM, the whole service was analyzed through the application of social network analysis (SNA). Left-to-right tree pattern matching

We propose a new technique to construct left-to-right matching automata for trees. Our method is based on the novel concept of prefix unifcation which is used to compute a certain closure of the pattern set. From the closure a kind of deterministic matching automaton can be derived immediately. We also point out how to perform the construction incrementally which makes our approach suitable for applications in which pattern sets change dynamically, such as in the Knuth-Bendix completion algorithm.

Ethological aspects and chemical communication at close-range between the sexes of Lysiphlebus testaceipes Cresson (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) have been investigated through behavioral bioassays and chemical analysis. The attractiveness toward males of whole-body extracts of females and males in hexane and acetone was evaluated, adopting male fanning behavior as a key behavioral component. Also, the activity of polar and nonpolar fraction of female-body extract in hexane obtained using solid-phase extraction technique was investigated.
