A loop-free two-close Gray-code algorithm for listing k-ary Dyck words
2006
AbstractP. Chase and F. Ruskey each published a Gray code for length n binary strings with m occurrences of 1, coding m-combinations of n objects, which is two-close—that is, in passing from one binary string to its successor a single 1 exchanges positions with a 0 which is either adjacent to the 1 or separated from it by a single 0. If we impose the restriction that any suffix of a string contains at least k−1 times as many 0's as 1's, we obtain k-suffixes: suffixes of k-ary Dyck words. Combinations are retrieved as special case by setting k=1 and k-ary Dyck words are retrieved as a special case by imposing the additional condition that the entire string has exactly k−1 times as many 0's a…
Game of Thieves and WERW-Kpath: Two Novel Measures of Node and Edge Centrality for Mafia Networks
2021
Real-world complex systems can be modeled as homogeneous or heterogeneous graphs composed by nodes connected by edges. The importance of nodes and edges is formally described by a set of measures called centralities which are typically studied for graphs of small size. The proliferation of digital collection of data has led to huge graphs with billions of nodes and edges. For this reason, we focus on two new algorithms, Game of Thieves and WERW-Kpath which are computationally-light alternatives to the canonical centrality measures such as degree, node and edge betweenness, closeness and clustering. We explore the correlation among these measures using the Spearman’s correlation coefficient …
Epistemic and didactic values of the demonstrative process in different cultures: a case study in Geometry with Chinese and Italian students
2011
Echoes of French Prosody in the Translations of Dai Wangshu (1905-1950).
2017
Attraverso il "close reading" vengono messi in evidenza alcuni elementi di corrispondenza prosodica tra la poesia francese e le traduzioni del poeta cinese Dai Wangshu dell'inizio del XX secolo.
On Słowikowski, Raíkov and De Wilde Closed Graph Theorems
1986
Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on the Slowikowski, Raikov and De Wilde closed graph theorems. The vector spaces used in the chapter, are defined over the field Ղ of real or complex numbers. The term, “space” means separated topological vector space, unless the contrary is specifically stated. If Ω is a non-empty open subset of the n -dimensional euclidean space, then the Schwartz space ҟ′(Ω) endowed with the strong topology belongs to this class. The chapter also studies the classes of spaces related with this conjecture. The class of Slowikowski spaces contains the F-spaces and it is stable with respect to the operations that include: countable topological direct sums, closed subsp…
Algebraic (2, 2)-transformation groups
2009
This paper contains the more significant part of the article with the same title that will appear in the Volume 12 of Journal of Group Theory (2009). In this paper we determine all algebraic transformation groups $G$, defined over an algebraically closed field $\sf k$, which operate transitively, but not primitively, on a variety $\Omega$, provided the following conditions are fulfilled. We ask that the (non-effective) action of $G$ on the variety of blocks is sharply 2-transitive, as well as the action on a block $\Delta$ of the normalizer $G_\Delta$. Also we require sharp transitivity on pairs $(X,Y)$ of independent points of $\Omega$, i.e. points contained in different blocks.
Morphometrics of Second Iron Age ceramics - strengths, weaknesses, and comparison with traditional typology.
2014
12 pages; International audience; Although the potential of geometric morphometrics for the study of archaeological artefacts is recognised, quantitative evaluations of the concordance between such methods and traditional typology are rare. The present work seeks to fill this gap, using as a case study a corpus of 154 complete ceramic vessels from the Bibracte oppidum (France), the capital of the Celtic tribe Aedui from the Second Iron Age. Two outline-based approaches were selected: the Elliptic Fourier Analysis and the Discrete Cosine Transform. They were combined with numerous methods of standardisation/normalisation. Although standardisations may use either perimeter or surface, the res…
A Typology of Cost Accounting Practices Based on Activity-Based Costing – A Strategic Cost Management Approach and a Case Study
2018
This paper examines cost accounting methods containing one or more activity-based costing (now ABC) like dimensions. The research reviews these methods since the early stages of ABC. The objective is to analyze cost accounting proposals with, in part, a philosophy reminiscent ABC. For all the methods examined, ABC is a starting point at least one important component. The research purposes are to analyze the strategic dimension of the methods described and to build a typology useful for managers. Factors of usefulness are considered in the paper. The discussion leads to a four-dimensional typology based on three strategic objectives assigned to the cost accounting systems. The foundation of …
Shaping women's agency through temporality in "The life and activity of the holy and blessed teacher Syncletica"
2020
The present article attempts to discuss the relationship between two female characters, Thecla and Syncletica, against the wider theoretical background of temporality as it was perceived and construed through literary texts. Syncletica is portrayed as a ‘disciple’ of Thecla. However, while the apocryphal Acts of Paul and Thecla appear to be pervaded with an eschatological expectation, the Life of Saint Syncletica shows signs of a different temporality. The detailed description of the whole life of Syncletica, with an emphasis on the course of illness, reveals a temporality more focused on the stages of life. Building on this evidence, I aim to identify a set of key features that…
