Do You See What I See? Effectiveness of 360-Degree vs. 2D Video Ads Using a Neuroscience Approach

2021

[EN] This study compares cognitive and emotional responses to 360-degree vs. static (2D) videos in terms of visual attention, brand recognition, engagement of the prefrontal cortex, and emotions. Hypotheses are proposed based on the interactivity literature, cognitive overload, advertising response model and motivation, opportunity, and ability theoretical frameworks, and tested using neurophysiological tools: electroencephalography, eye-tracking, electrodermal activity, and facial coding. The results revealed that gaze view depends on ad content, visual attention paid being lower in 360-degree FMCG ads than in 2D ads. Brand logo recognition is lower in 360-degree ads than in 2D video ads. …

A carbon sink-driven approach to estimate gross primary production from microwave satellite observations

2019

Abstract Global estimation of Gross Primary Production (GPP) - the uptake of atmospheric carbon dioxide by plants through photosynthesis - is commonly based on optical satellite remote sensing data. This presents a source-driven approach since it uses the amount of absorbed light, the main driver of photosynthesis, as a proxy for GPP. Vegetation Optical Depth (VOD) estimates obtained from microwave sensors provide an alternative and independent data source to estimate GPP on a global scale, which may complement existing GPP products. Recent studies have shown that VOD is related to aboveground biomass, and that both VOD and temporal changes in VOD relate to GPP. In this study, we build upon…

An analysis of fear factors predicting enterprise social media use in an era of communication visibility

2022

PurposeThe benefits associated with visibility in organizations depend on employees' willingness to engage with technologies that utilize visible communication and make communication visible to others. Without the participation of workers, enterprise social media have limited value. This study develops a framework to assess what deters and drives employees' use of enterprise social media.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from 753 employees of a global company using an online survey. The response rate was 24.5%. The authors used structural equation modeling to test the hypothesized framework.FindingsThe results show that various fears by workers may deter or motivate enterprise …

Surviving task interruptions: Investigating the implications of long-term working memory theory

2006

Typically, we have several tasks at hand, some of which are in interrupted state while others are being carried out. Most of the time, such interruptions are not disruptive to task performance. Based on the theory of Long-Term Working Memory (LTWM; Ericsson, K.A., Kintsch, W., 1995. Long-term working memory. Psychological Review, 102, 211-245), we posit that unless there are enough mental skills and resources to encode task representations to retrieval structures in long-term memory, the resulting memory traces will not enable reinstating the information, which can lead to memory losses. However, once encoded to LTWM, they are virtually safeguarded. Implications of the theory were tested in…

Isolated bladder exstrophy associated with a de novo 0.9 Mb microduplication on chromosome 19p13.12

2012

BACKGROUND: The exstrophy-epispadias complex (BEEC) is a urogenital birth defect of varying severity. The causes of the BEEC are likely to be heterogeneous, with individual environmental or genetic risk factors still being largely unknown. In this study, we aimed to identify de novo causative copy number variations (CNVs) that contribute to the BEEC. METHODS: Array-based molecular karyotyping was performed to screen 110 individuals with BEEC. Promising CNVs were tested for de novo occurrence by investigating parental DNAs. Genes located in regions of rearrangements were prioritized through expression analysis in mice to be sequenced in the complete cohort, to identify high-penetrance mutati…

APIS to extract information in social channels in educational context

2018

In this days the world is involved in the research and development of new resources, and methods that allow the use of new technologies fulfilling a goal that is the learning of education through the Web, thus using resources such as different APIs for different purposes. Taking into account the functionalities provided by the APIs, the objective was to obtain information about the different educational resources in the social channels of the Universidad Tecnica Particular de Loja (UTPL). The study of pervious APIs is a part of the project Use of Cloud Computing tools, Bodies of Knowledge and affective computing in the process of developing technological skills focused on problem solving of…

The performance of the INLSA in comparison with the ESPRIT and SAGE algorithms

2014

In this paper we investigate the application potential of three known algorithms, namely the ESPRIT, SAGE and INLSA, to properly emulate the statistical properties of the mobile fading channel. The performance comparisons of those methods will be carried out with respect to their fitting accuracy to the autocorrelation function (ACF) of the reference model. The methods' accuracy will be assessed in the synthetic reference channel model, which is based on the sum-of-cisoids (SOC) principle. In our reference model, we consider the scenarios with equal gains and Rayleigh distributed gains. The obtained results indicate that in both scenarios the INLSA method is more preferable than the ESPRIT …

DNA barcodes reveal the presence of the introduced freshwater leechHelobdella europaeain Spain

2013

Abstract We report the finding of the freshwater leech Helobdella europaea in Spain for the first time. Three leech specimens were found attached to the European pond turtle Emys orbicularis. Helobdella europaea is not a blood feeder and, like all members of the genus, feeds on the hemolymph of aquatic invertebrates including snails and worms. Despite the fact that the original geographical distribution or source population of this species is unknown, the close relationship between H. europaea and leeches of the "triserialis" series (sensu Sawyer, 1986) suggests a New World origin. Given its ability to invade and persist in new environments, this leech has been described as a new species by…

Non-coding RNAs and Coronary Artery Disease

2020

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading death cause worldwide. Non-coding RNA (ncRNA) are key regulators of genetic expression and thus can affect directly or indirectly the development and progression of different diseases. ncRNA can be classified in several types depending on the length or structure, as long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), microRNA (miRNA) and circularRNA (circRNA), among others. These types of RNA are present within cells or in circulation, and for this reason they have been used as biomarkers of different diseases, therefore revolutionizing precision medicine. Recent research studied the capability of circulating ncRNA to inform about CAD presence and predict the outcome …

Automatic research of the capitalization rate for the residential automated valuation: an experimental study in Cosenza (Italy).

2017

When a market oriented approach is not applicable because of the lack of comparable sales data (Ciuna et al. 2014a), International Valuation Standards suggest the use of the Income Approach, which has the task of simulating the market through an economic and financial scheme. The central question of this approach is due to the quantification of the capitalization rate, whereas it is generally extracted in a market segment different from that of the subject. This paper intends to propose an automated valuation model of the capitalization rate based on a real estate database built through a computerized geocoding automatic procedure, starting from the application of statistical models of mult…
