2012

The need for specific attention for the personal, social, academic and professional development of students with disabilities is a challenge that the university is committed to. Although significant progress has been made, promoted by an inclusive educational approach, there are still many difficulties faced by students to intergrate into university education. Structural equation modelling gave support to the model proposed. It was verified the sequence of relationships between perceptions of coach-created mastery climate, psychological needs, self-determined motivation, commitment, and adherence. The major contribution of the study was to confirm a motivational model of adherence based on social-cog…

Digital media in blended coaching : interaction and distance presence in adult education

2011

In this study were studied the dimensions and advantages of the digital media in the adult education and distance presence. The point of view and limiting of the study was coaching and the significance of face-to-face interaction in it. The study was partly based on my three earlier reports about the digital media in the direction of teaching training. Main question of the three reports was would the digital media supply some new dimensions and benefits for teaching training guidance? It was seen, in the reports, as the biggest disadvantage that the distance presence is not a genuine situation because there is lack of (quick) interactivity. The need for a flexible two-way communication chan…

Coaches’ implementation strategies in providing social support to Singaporean university athletes : A case study

2019

Coaches are effective providers of social support to their athletes. Although sport-specific measures of social support have been developed to better understand athletes’ perceptions of available support, limited amount of research has addressed how sport coaches implement specific social support strategies. The purpose of this study was to examine university coaches’ implementation strategies in providing various forms of social support to their athletes. A total of eight sport coaches from team and individual sports (four from each sport) were purposefully selected for this study. Coaches were individually interviewed. Concurrent endurance and strength training : neuromuscular, cardiorespiratory and hormonal effects of the exercise order in previously untrained and …

2015

The aim of the present thesis was two-fold. First, to investigate physiological adaptations to concurrent endurance and strength training performed in the same session with different exercise orders (i.e. commencing training with endurance or strength, respectively; E+S vs. S+E) in previously untrained men (n=42) (study 1). Second, to examine physiological adaptations when strength training was always performed immediately after endurance running in the same session (E+S) compared to endurance training alone (E) in recreational endurance runners (n=30) (study 2). In study 1, training consisted of 2 - 3 weekly combined endurance cycling and mixed hypertrophic and maximal strength training se…

Predicting Coaches' Adherence/Dropout: A Prospective Study

2015

The objective of this study was to examine motivational variables based on self-determination theory (SDT) and positive psychology as predictors of coaches' adherence and dropout. A prospective study was performed using a sample of 286 coaches who were tracked over a two-year period. Initially coaches' motivation and psychological need satisfaction were measured; two years later they were contacted and asked if they were still coaching in their original sport. Those who did not were considered as drop-outs for the current study. Logistic binary regression analyses were performed to analyse predictors of persistence and dropout. Need Satisfaction Index (NSI), perceived competence and percei…
