In Staphylococci maximal induction of nitrate reductase (narGHJI genes) requires anaerobic conditions, the presence of nitrate, and the NreABC regulatory system. Aerobic regulation is effected by the NreB/NreC two-component system. The role of the nitrate receptor NreA in nitrate induction and its relation to aerobic regulation was analysed in Staphylococcus carnosus. Nitrate induction of a narG-lip reporter gene required presence of NreB/NreC. When nreA was deleted, nitrate was no longer required for maximal induction, suggesting that NreA is a nitrate regulated inhibitor of NreB/NreC. Background Present study was conducted with the aim of evaluating antimicrobial efficacy of silver (AgNP) and gold nanoparticles (AuNP) with and without Nd: YAG laser (L) irradiation against experimentally inoculated Enterococcus faecalis in infected human root dentin. Effects of yeast proteolytic activity on Oenococcus oeni and malolactic fermentation

International audience; Alcoholic fermentation of synthetic must was performed using either Saccharomyces cerevisiae or a mutant Delta pep4, which is deleted for the proteinase A gene. Fermentation with the mutant Delta pep4 resulted in 61% lower levels of free amino acids, and in 62% lower peptide concentrations at the end of alcoholic fermentation than in the control. Qualitative differences in amino acid composition were observed. Changes observed in amino acids in peptides were mainly quantitative. A cross-sectional study was carried out to determine the prevalence of Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sobrinus and the association of the two in a random sample (n=614) of the child population of the region of Valencia (Spain). Saliva samples were analyzed by the quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method to study the relation of these bacteria to caries prevalence and the DMFT index. The prevalence of S. mutans was 35.4% at age 12 and 22.9% at age 15, that of S. sobrinus 18.9% and 8.4% and that of the S. mutans-S. sobrinus association 18.2% and 6.8% respectively.
