A pilot study of laparoscopic adhesion prophylaxis after myomectomy with a copolymer designed for endoscopic application.
2009
Abstract Study Objective To assess the laparoscopic handling and safety of D,L-polylactide-e-caprolactone-trimethylene carbonate (PCT) copolymer after myomectomy and compare it with icodextrin. In contrast to previously developed solid barriers, the material has rationally designed properties that are advantageous for convenient laparoscopic application. Design A randomized, single-blinded clinical study (Canadian Task Force Classification I). Setting Single-center study in a German University Hospital. Patients Thirty patients who underwent laparoscopic myomectomy were enrolled. Interventions After laparoscopic myomectomy and subsequent reconstruction of the uterus with interrupted sutures…
Equivalence of the 3-month and 28-day formulations of triptorelin with regard to achievement and maintenance of medical castration in women with endo…
2003
OBJECTIVE: The present study aims at demonstrating the equivalence of the 28-day and 3-month formulations of triptorelin SR (sustained release) in terms of percentage of patients achieving castration levels of estradiol (<==50 pg/mL) 84 days after treatment initiation. DESIGN: A phase II, prospective, randomized, multicenter, open study was conducted in two parallel groups of women with endometriosis. SETTING: Academic hospitals. PATIENT(S): Seventy-two women with endometriosis. were treated with a single intramuscular injection of 3-month triptorelin SR, and 74 patients were treated with one intramuscular injection of 28-day triptorelin SR every 28 days for 3 months. INTERVENTION(S): As pa…

(Table 1) Age determination of sediment core SO147_106KL
2005
Here we present a high-resolution marine sediment record from the El Niño region off the coast of Peru spanning the last 20,000 years. Sea surface temperature, photosynthetic pigments, and a lithic proxy for El Niño flood events on the continent are used as paleo-El Niño-Southern Oscillation proxy data. The onset of stronger El Niño activity in Peru started around 17,000 calibrated years before the present, which is later than modeling experiments show but contemporaneous with the Heinrich event 1. Maximum El Niño activity occurred during the early and late Holocene, especially during the second and third millennium B.P. The recurrence period of very strong El Niño events is 60-80 years. El…
Implementing Precision Medicine in Human Frailty through Epigenetic Biomarkers
2021
The main epigenetic features in aging are: reduced bulk levels of core histones, altered pattern of histone post-translational modifications, changes in the pattern of DNA methylation, replacement of canonical histones with histone variants, and altered expression of non-coding RNA. The identification of epigenetic mechanisms may contribute to the early detection of age-associated subclinical changes or deficits at the molecular and/or cellular level, to predict the development of frailty, or even more interestingly, to improve health trajectories in older adults. Frailty reflects a state of increased vulnerability to stressors as a result of decreased physiologic reserves, and even dysregu…
Primmorphs generated from dissociated cells of the sponge Suberites domuncula: a model system for studies of cell proliferation and cell death
1999
Sponges (Porifera) represent the lowest metazoan phylum; they have been shown to be provided with the characteristic metazoan structural and functional molecules. One autapomorphic character of sponges is the presence of high levels of telomerase activity in all cells (or almost all cells, including somatic cells). In spite of this fact previous attempts to cultivate sponge cells remained unsuccessful. It was found that dissociated sponge cells do not replicate DNA and lose their telomerase activity. In addition, no nutrients or metabolites have been detected that would stimulate sponge cells to divide. In the present study we report the culture conditions required for the formation of mult…
New dopamine D2 receptor polymorphisms in rats and association with apomorphine-induced stereotypies.
2002
Adult Wistar rats injected with the dopamine receptor agonist apomorphine display different types of motility patterns with respect to oral stereotypes and locomotor activities. It was tested whether phenotypes exhibiting either ‘sniffing’ or ‘non-sniffing’ behaviour differed in gene structures of dopamine receptors D1 or D2. Forty-five Wistar rats of both genders were tested after a single dose of apomorphine (2 mg/kg s.c.) for stereotyped behaviour. Sequence analysis of the 5′ flanking region, the 5′ untranslated region and the coding region of the two genes revealed a new sequence for the 5′ flanking region of the D1 receptor gene and two polymorphisms in the promoter region of the D2 re…
Breve fenomenologia della vita emotiva nella prospettiva dell'educazione
2018
The paper explores the link between human becoming and biographical narrative, within the empathy-centred existential dialogue. The existential dialogue should not be assimilated to a psychotherapeutic method: it is, rather, a special care relationship within an educational perspective. In a semiological analysis, the existential dialogue is an interaction shaped according to an empathetic code and giving rise to a peculiar relational regulation system based on: 1. demandingness (or control), linked to authority and competence; 2. emotional responsiveness (or empathetic contact), linked to socio-affective interaction; 3. authenticity (or congruence), linked to transparency in speaking. In a…
Group graded algebras and almost polynomial growth
2011
Let F be a field of characteristic 0, G a finite abelian group and A a G-graded algebra. We prove that A generates a variety of G-graded algebras of almost polynomial growth if and only if A has the same graded identities as one of the following algebras: (1) FCp, the group algebra of a cyclic group of order p, where p is a prime number and p||G|; (2) UT2G(F), the algebra of 2×2 upper triangular matrices over F endowed with an elementary G-grading; (3) E, the infinite dimensional Grassmann algebra with trivial G-grading; (4) in case 2||G|, EZ2, the Grassmann algebra with canonical Z2-grading.
Varieties with at most cubic growth
2019
Abstract Let V be a variety of non necessarily associative algebras over a field of characteristic zero. The growth of V is determined by the asymptotic behavior of the sequence of codimensions c n ( V ) , n = 1 , 2 , … , and here we study varieties of polynomial growth. We classify all possible growth of varieties V of algebras satisfying the identity x ( y z ) ≡ 0 such that c n ( V ) C n α , with 1 ≤ α 3 , for some constant C. We prove that if 1 ≤ α 2 then c n ( V ) ≤ C 1 n , and if 2 ≤ α 3 , then c n ( V ) ≤ C 2 n 2 , for some constants C 1 , C 2 .
