The world population is getting older, and this age group faces important health challenges, among which age-related cognitive decline stands out. Therefore, it is important to identify vulnerability and protective health factors in order to understand ways to prevent cognitive decline. Paths from socioemotional behavior in middle childhood to personality in middle adulthood.

Continuity in individual differences from socioemotional behavior in middle childhood to personality characteristics in middle adulthood was examined on the assumption that they share certain temperament-related elements. Socioemotional characteristics were measured using teacher ratings at ages 8 (N = 369; 53% males) and 14 (95% of the initial sample). Personality was assessed at age 42 (63% of the initial sample; 50% males) using a shortened version of the NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI); the Karolinska Scales of Personality (KSP); and the Adult Temperament Questionnaire (ATQ). Recent applications of simultaneous scalp electroencephalography (EEG) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) suggest that adapting stimulation to underlying brain states may enhance neuroplastic effects of TMS. It is often assumed that longer-lasting effects of TMS on brain function may be mediated by phasic interactions between TMS pulses and endogenous cortical oscillatory dynamics. Applying phenomenography in guidance and counselling research

This paper examines phenomenography as a viable qualitative approach in guidance and counselling research. A phenomenographic study maps the qualitatively different ways in which people experience a specific phenomenon and helps researchers to describe the aspects that make one way of experiencing a certain phenomenon qualitatively distinct from another. This paper presents an overview of phenomenographic research, encompassing theoretical, methodological and practical considerations. The application of this approach in guidance and counselling studies is illustrated with examples. peerReviewed

Children in the visual coverage of the European refugee crisis: A case study of the World Press Photo 2016

Shifts in the visual coverage of refugees arriving in Europe and prominent compassion fatigue emphasize the need to examine visual strategies utilized to report on the crisis. This study focuses on representations of refugee children using a case of the World Press Photo (WPP) 2016. The material was interpreted with a model for visual rhetorical interpretation of journalistic photographs. Substantial empirical evidence supports the positive effects of physical activity (PA) on executive functions, but not all forms of physical activity benefit equally. Among kindergarteners, cognitively-engaging exercise seems to more strongly effect EF than simple exercise. Cognitive style and teaching style influences on the motor skill performance of 11 and 12 year old physical education students

The current study examined the influence of cognitive style and teaching style on the motor skill performance of children. A sample of 163 students aged 11 to 12 years old (M = 11.31, SD = 0.46) were categorized as either field dependent or field independent on the basis of their scores on the Group Embedded Figures Test. Children completed a ball handling skills task that assessed throwing and catching abilities at the commencement and completion of the treatment. De l’intérêt des pictogrammes pour figurer les représentations sociocognitives de l’espace résidentiel

Quel rapport émotionnel un individu entretient-il avec son habitat ? Un jeu de simulation de négociation entre les différents critères d’évaluation de l’environnement résidentiel permet de recueillir un corpus de données. Son analyse implique une réflexion sur la formalisation des résultats obtenus. Deux options sont confrontées : une représentation en graphe polaire et une image composée de pictogrammes symbolisant les multiples dimensions de l’espace résidentiel qui peuvent motiver les choix d’installation. Cette dernière image permet une appréhension plus simple du lien entre les structures spatiales, cognitives et sociales.
