Dipole soliton-vortices

2007

On universal symmetry grounds, we analyze the existence of a new type of discrete-symmetry vortex solitons that can be considered as coherent states of dipole solitons carrying a nonzero topological charge. Remarkably, they can be also interpreted as excited angular Bloch states. The stability of new soliton states is elucidated numerically.

Measurement of the Coherent Neutron Scattering Length of (3) He.

2005

By means of neutron interferometry the s-wave neutron scattering length of the (3)He nucleus was re-measured at the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL). Using a skew symmetrical perfect crystal Si-interferometer and a linear twin chamber cell, false phase shifts due to sample misalignment were reduced to a negligible level. Simulation calculations suggest an asymmetrically alternating measuring sequence in order to compensate for systematic errors caused by thermal phase drifts. There is evidence in the experiment's data that this procedure is indeed effective. The neutron refractive index in terms of Sears' exact expression for the scattering amplitude has been analyzed in order to evaluate the m…

Comparative analysis of spectral coherence in microresonator frequency combs

2014

Microresonator combs exploit parametric oscillation and nonlinear mixing in an ultrahigh-Q cavity. This new comb generator offers unique potential for chip integration and access to high repetition rates. However, time-domain studies reveal an intricate spectral coherence behavior in this type of platform. In particular, coherent, partially coherent or incoherent combs have been observed using the same microresonator under different pumping conditions. In this work, we provide a numerical analysis of the coherence dynamics that supports the above experimental findings and verify particular design rules to achieve spectrally coherent microresonator combs. A particular emphasis is placed in u…

Ultrafast hybrid plasmonics

2008

Abstract We review our recent studies of electromagnetic coupling and associated temporal dynamics of molecular excitations with plasmonic resonances supported by either localized or extended planar geometries. We focus on coherent interactions between plasmon resonances and molecular excitations, which are experimentally challenging due to the very short (∼10–100 fs) coherence times of plasmons. Recent experimental results and theoretical analysis for observing and controlling coherences between molecular excitations and plasmonic polarizations are shown. Advances will explore new directions in ultrafast coherent control of molecular excited states and energy dissipation processes, as well…

Coherent Light Harvesting through Strong Coupling to Confined Light

2018

When photoactive molecules interact strongly with confined light modes, new hybrid light–matter states may form: the polaritons. These polaritons are coherent superpositions of excitations of the molecules and of the cavity photon. Recently, polaritons were shown to mediate energy transfer between chromophores at distances beyond the Forster limit. Here we explore the potential of strong coupling for light-harvesting applications by means of atomistic molecular dynamics simulations of mixtures of photoreactive and non-photo-reactive molecules strongly coupled to a single confined light mode. These molecules are spatially separated and present at different concentrations. Our simulations sug…

Temporal Dynamics of Incoherent Nonlinear Waves

2014

We review different formalisms describing incoherent waves: the wave turbulence kinetic equation, the Vlasov equation in analogy with Gravitation, the weak Langmuir turbulence equation describing spectral solitons and incoherent dispersive shocks.

Quasienergy states of trapped ions

2000

The quantum models for a single trapped ion are extended to the description of the collective dynamics for systems of ions confined in quadrupole electromagnetic traps with cylindrical symmetry. A class of quantum Hamiltonians with suitable axial and radial interaction potentials given by homogeneous functions of degree (-2) and invariant under translations and axial rotations are introduced. The considered axial and radial quantum Hamiltonians for the center-of-mass and relative motions are described by collective dynamical systems associated to the symplectic group \(\). Discrete quasienergy spectra are obtained and the corresponding quasienergy states are explicitly realized as \(\) cohe…

Electric-field-induced Raman scattering in GaAs: Franz-Keldysh oscillations

1995

We have studied the influence of strong electric fields on the Raman scattering intensity from LO phonons in GaAs (100) at room temperature using laser excitation energies above the fundamental ${\mathit{E}}_{0}$ gap. Striking oscillations are found in the scattering intensity for configurations where either the deformation potential or Fr\"ohlich electron-phonon interaction contribute. The oscillations in the deformation-potential-mediated scattering intensity can be related to Franz-Keldysh oscillations derived from the ${\mathit{E}}_{0}$ gap, whereas a more complicated mechanism has to be invoked for processes where Fr\"ohlich interaction is responsible.

Optimal local control of coherent dynamics in custom-made nanostructures

2013

We apply quantum optimal control theory to establish a local voltage-control scheme that operates in conjunction with the numerically exact solution of the time-dependent Schr¨ odinger equation. The scheme is demonstrated for high-fidelity coherent control of electronic charge in semiconductor double quantum dots. We find tailored gate voltages in the viable gigahertz regime that drive the system to a desired charge configuration with >99% yield. The results could be immediately verified in experiments and would play an important role in applications towards solid-state quantum computing. During the past decade, advances in the fabrication of custom-made nanostructures have allowed the obse…

The law and the risks of stability and integrity for financial institutions

2011

Purpose – There are ever growing relations and mutual influences between law and global economic context: so, there arises the need for them to be investigated in a legal perspective, which is the aim of this paper.Design/methodology/approach – The method used tries to combine the empirical observation of the legal and economic reality in today's world and a few essential theoretical foundations such as the freedom to dispose of one's rights by wave of contractual instrument.Findings – The dramatic crisis that the global world has had to face over the past few years compels legal scholars to revisiting process of traditional categories in order to adapt them to society's changing problems.R…
