Promptγ-ray spectroscopy of the neutron-rich124Cd

Prompt γ -ray spectroscopy of neutron-rich cadmium isotopes has been performed. The nuclei of interest have been populated via a 25-MeV, proton-induced fission of the 238 U thick target and prompt γ -rays measured using the multi-detector HPGe array JUROGAM II. New high-spin decays have been observed and placed in the level scheme using triple coincidence gates. The experimental results are compared to shell-model calculations and show good agreement.
The use of the integral-bias summing coincidence spectrometer in directional correlation measurements

Abstract The performance of the integral-bias summing coincidence spectrometer (the sum-peak spetrometer) in measurements of directional correlations of gamma rays has been tested. As compared with the conventional method, the sum-peak spectrometer is easier to use and seems to yield results which agree with those obtained with the ordinary method. Because of the complex shapes of response functions of gamma rays above about 3 MeV, the new method is best suited to the study of cascading transitions below this energy, where the two methods appear to complement each other. Development of a TES based Cryo-Anticoincidence for a large array of microcalorimeters

The employment of large arrays of microcalorimeters in space missions (IXO, EDGE/XENIA)[1][2][3], requires the presence of an anticoincidence detector to remove the background due to the particles, with a rejection efficiency at least equal to Suzaku (98%) [1]. A new concept of anticoincidence is under development to match the very tight thermal requirements and to simplify the design of the electronic chain. The idea is to produce a Cryo-AntiCoincidence (Cryo-AC) based on a silicon absorber and read by a TES (Transition-Edge Sensor). Observation of an Intense Quasicontinuum of Superdeformed Rotational Transitions inEu143

Quasicontinuum spectra in coincidence with transitions belonging to the different potential wells of {sup 143}Eu are studied with an increasing number of coincidence folds. An intense bump of rotationally correlated transitions is observed to develop in the high spin region. Fold distributions, angular anisotropies, moment of inertia determinations, and lower limits of lifetimes as a function of the rotational frequency show that the bump originates from highly collective rotationally damped {ital E}2 transitions generated by superdeformed states. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}
Alpha-Photon Coincidence Spectroscopy Along Element 115 Decay Chains

Produced in the reaction 48Ca+243Am, thirty correlated α-decay chains were observed in an experiment conducted at the GSI Helmholzzentrum fur Schwerionenforschung, Darmstadt, Germany. The decay chains are basically consistent with previous findings and are considered to originate from isotopes of element 115 with mass numbers 287, 288, and 289. A set-up aiming specifically for high-resolution charged particle and photon coincidence spectroscopy was placed behind the gas-filled separator TASCA. For the first time, γ rays as well as X-ray candidates were observed in prompt coincidence with the α-decay chains of element 115.

Abstract The photopeak efficiency and the peak-to-total ratio for a 7.5 × 7.5 cm solid NaI(Tl)-crystal are determined in the range of 0.145–1.33 MeV. The disintegration rates of the disc sources used are known by 4 πβ -and 4 πβ - γ -coincidence measurements. The effect of the disc diameter and the distance source-crystal on the photopeak efficiency is studied thoroughly. The data obtained are compared with those of other authors. The evaluation of the photopeak area is performed in a frequency diagram, a special type of probability scale, in which both parts of the Gaussian curve are represented by straight lines. Symmetries in mirror nuclei $^{31}$S and $^{31}$P

Excited states in mirror nuclei 31S and 31P were populated in the 1n and 1p exit channels, respectively, of the reaction 20Ne + 12C. The beam of 20Ne, with an energy of 33 MeV, was delivered for the first time by the Piave-Alpi accelerator of the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro. Angular correlations of coincident pairs and Doppler-shift attenuation lifetime measurements in 31S and 31P were performed using the multidetector array GASP in conjunction with the EUCLIDES charged particle detector. A comparison of the determined B(E1) strengths of the analog mirror 7/2- → 5/2+ transitions indicates the presence of a violation of isospin symmetry.
Prompt gamma ray-spectroscopy of N = 50 fission fragments

Excited states in the nuclei 83 As and 84,86 Se have been studied via prompt -ray spectroscopy. The nuclei were produced by the proton-induced fission of a 238 U target, at the accelerator of the University of Jyvaskyla. The JUROGAM-II array was used to detect prompt -rays and a triple- coincidence analysis performed. A comparison of the N = 50 nuclei with shell-model calculations reproduces the low-lying states in 83 As and 84 Se well. The inclusion of particle-hole excitations is necessary to correctly describe the states above ∼ 3.5 MeV.
The exposure of the hybrid detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory

The Pierre Auger Observatory is a detector for ultra-high energy cosmic rays. It consists of a surface array to measure secondary particles at ground level and a fluorescence detector to measure the development of air showers in the atmosphere above the array. The ‘‘hybrid” detection mode combines the information from the two subsystems. We describe the determination of the hybrid exposure for events observed by the fluorescence telescopes in coincidence with at least one water-Cherenkov detector of the surface array. Energy Recovery of Multiple Charge Sharing Events in Room Temperature Semiconductor Pixel Detectors

Multiple coincidence events from charge-sharing and fluorescent cross-talk are typical drawbacks in room-temperature semiconductor pixel detectors. The mitigation of these distortions in the measured energy spectra, using charge-sharing discrimination (CSD) and charge-sharing addition (CSA) techniques, is always a trade-off between counting efficiency and energy resolution. The energy recovery of multiple coincidence events is still challenging due to the presence of charge losses after CSA. In this work, we will present original techniques able to correct charge losses after CSA even when multiple pixels are involved.
