Enhanced prolylhydroxylase activity in the posterior annulus fibrosus of canine intervertebral discs following long-term running exercise

The effect of long-term excercise on the intervertebral disc collagen concentration (hydroxyproline), collagen-synthesizing enzymes (prolyl-4-hydroxylase, PH, and galactosyl-hydroxylysyl glucosyltransferase, GGT) and hydroxypyridinium crosslinks was studied in ten female beagle dogs. The dogs were run on a treadmill for 1 year starting at the age of 15 weeks. The daily running distance was gradually increased to 40km, which distance the dogs ran for the final 15 weeks. AbstractIt was previously reported that 8701-BC breast cancer cells express the gene for parathyroid hormone-related peptide (PTHrP) and its cognate receptor (PTHrP-R), and release immunoreactive PTHrP in the extracellular medium; it was also found that PTHrP, in turn, exerts a role on the proliferative and invasive behavior in vitro of the same cell line. David Markson’s Reader’s block (1996) consists of 193 pages of quotations, anecdotes, names, and fragments. The book bears the paratext “A novel,” and the work has indeed been read as a narrative whole, in which “an aging author [...] contemplates the writing of a novel.” By being out of ordinary and therefore worth of telling, the anecdotes or curiosities seemingly fulfill the requirements of a “natural” narrative as defined by Monika Fludernik (1996). However, a mass of such mini-narratives, mixed with even more fragmentary texts, seems to defy narrativity (and tellability). Diplomdarba mērķis bija atrast veidu, kā nostiprināt vārdu krājumu svešvalodā 3. klasē, pārvēršot to par aktīvu vārdu krājumu, izmantojot kolāžas. Darba tēma tika izvēlēta, jo autore tic, ka vārdu krājums ir pamats svešvalodu apgūšanā. Skolotāja uzdevums ir palīdzēt skolēniem apgūt vārdu krājumu, izmantojot vizuālos materiālus mācību procesā pēc iespējas vairāk. Izvēlētā pētījuma metode bija atsevišķa gadījuma pētījums, kas tika veikts Rīgas 32. vidusskolā 3. klasē. Datu vākšanas metodes bija 2 testi skolēniem, intervija ar vietējo angļu valodas skolotāju un skolēnu anketa. An arthritogenic alphavirus uses the α1β1 integrin collagen receptor

Ross River (RR) virus is an alphavirus endemic to Australia and New Guinea and is the aetiological agent of epidemic polyarthritis or RR virus disease. Here we provide evidence that RR virus uses the collagen-binding alpha1beta1 integrin as a cellular receptor. Infection could be inhibited by collagen IV and antibodies specific for the beta1 and alpha1 integrin proteins, and fibroblasts from alpha1-integrin-/- mice were less efficiently infected than wild-type fibroblasts. Soluble alpha1beta1 integrin bound immobilized RR virus, and peptides representing the alpha1beta1 integrin binding-site on collagen IV inhibited virus binding to cells.
