The tagging detector of the CP-violation experiment NA48 at CERN
1998
Abstract The CP-violation experiment NA48 at CERN aims at measuring direct CP-violation in the decays of neutral kaons into π + π − and π 0 π 0 . The experiment uses simultaneous, almost collinear beams of neutral K L 0 and K S 0 mesons, which are produced on two different targets. K S 0 events are “tagged” by measuring the times of the protons that fly towards the K S 0 production target. In order to sustain the high rate of 10 7 protons/s in this beam without suffering from too many pile-up events, the detector consists of 24 separate scintillators (12 horizontal and 12 vertical), each of which sees only a small fraction of the beam. Their signals are digitized by specially developed 1 G…
Search for the Xb and other hidden-beauty states in the π+π−ϒ(1S) channel at ATLAS
2015
This Letter presents a search for a hidden-beauty counterpart of the X(3872) in the mass ranges 10.05--10.31 GeV and 10.40--11.00 GeV, in the channel Xb→π+π−Υ(1S)(→μ+μ−), using 16.2 fb−1 of s√=8 TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. No evidence for new narrow states is found, and upper limits are set on the product of the Xb cross section and branching fraction, relative to those of the Υ(2S), at the 95% confidence level using the CLS approach. These limits range from 0.8% to 4.0%, depending on mass. For masses above 10.1 GeV, the expected upper limits from this analysis are the most restrictive to date. Searches for production of the Υ(13DJ), Υ(10860), and Υ(110…
Observation ofe+e−→ηJ/ψat center-of-mass energys=4.009 GeV
2012
Using a 478 pb(-1) data sample collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider storage ring at a center-of-mass energy of root s = 4.009 GeV, the production of e(+)e(-) -> eta J/psi is observed for the first time with a statistical significance of greater than 10 sigma. The Born cross section is measured to be (32.1 +/- 2.8 +/- 1.3) pb, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. Assuming the eta J/psi signal is from a hadronic transition of the psi(4040), the fractional transition rate is determined to be B(psi(4040) -> eta J/psi) = (5.2 +/- 0.5 +/- 0.2 +/- 0.5) x 10(-3), where the first, second, and third errors are statistical, s…
A new measurement of the branching ratio of K(S) → γ γ
2000
Abstract The decay rate of KS → γγ has been measured with the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. A total of 149 KS → γγ events have been observed. The branching ratio is determined to be (2.58±0.36(stat)±0.22(sys))×10−6.

Kaon Physics at CERN – Recent Results from the NA48/2 and NA62 Experiments
2012
This letter presents recent results from the kaon experiments NA48/2 and its successor NA62 at CERN. With samples of 2.5 × 106 K µ 3 ± and 4.0 × 106 K e 3 ± events collected by NA48/2 in 2004, precise measurements of the form factors were performed. The Chiral Perturbation Theory was tested through a new study of K ± → π± γγ decays based on data taken with minimal trigger conditions. Using the beam line and detector of NA48/2 in the years 2007-2008, NA62 performed a precison measurement of the helicitysuppressed ratio of the charged kaon leptonic decay rates K ± → e+ ν and K ± → μ + ν Using the full data set, which is about ten times larger than the previous world data sample, the total unc…
Kaon physics at the CERN-SPS
2015
The NA48/2 and NA62 collaborations report on recent results, current status, and prospects of kaon physics at the CERN-SPS. The NA62 collaborations aims to measure the decay [Formula: see text] with an uncertainty of 10% or better. The NA62 detector and preliminary results from a pilot run in 2014 are presented. In addition, recent results of the NA48/2 collaboration are reported. A search for Dark Photons has been performed in [Formula: see text] decays via the kaon decays [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]. No dark photon signal was observed and new upper limits on the mixing parameter [Formula: see text] and the dark photon mass were computed. We also report the first observati…
Measurement of differentialJ/ψproduction cross sections and forward-backward ratios inp + Pbcollisions with the ATLAS detector
2015
Measurements of differential cross sections for J/psi production in p + Pb collisions at root S-NN= 5.02 TeV at the CERN Large Hadron Collider with the ATLAS detector are presented. The data set us ...
Studies on Antihydrogen Atoms with the ATRAP Experiment at CERN
2013
The CPT theorem predicts the same properties of matter and antimatter, however, in the nearby Universe, we observe a huge imbalance of matter and antimatter. Therefore, it is intriguing to measure the properties of particles and antiparticles in order to contribute to an explanation of this phenomena. In this article, we will describe the experimental efforts of the ATRAP Collaboration in order to test the CPT theorem using antihydrogen atoms.
