Influence of core color on final shade reproduction of zirconia crown in single central incisor situation ? An in vivo study

Background A lot of shaded zirconia blocks are being introduced into the market. Their effect on the final shade of the restoration is yet uncertain. Material and methods Twenty-four zirconia crowns were fabricated for 8 patients who needed to restore a single maxillary central incisor, and divided into 3 groups according to the color and type of the zirconia (Zr) used (white Zr core, colored Zr core, and monolithic high translucency (ht) Zr crowns). Separate processing of “color” and “brightness” in goldfish

Spectral sensitivity was measured under different adaptation levels using a behavioral training technique in which the fish had to discriminate between a dark test field and a test field illuminated with monochromatic light. Depending on which of the two test fields was used as training test field, two functions were obtained which differ (1) in absolute sensitivity and (2) in shape. When trained on the dark test field, the fish seems to discriminate on the basis of a "color" cue, but it uses a "brightness" cue when trained on the illuminated test field. Images perceived after chromatic or achromatic contrast sensitivity losses.

Purpose. We simulate how subjects with losses in chromatic and achromatic contrast sensitivity perceive colored images by using the spatiochromatic corresponding pair algorithm. Methods. This is a generalized version of the algorithm by Capilla et al. (J Opt Soc Am (A) 2004;21:176 –186) for simulating color perception of color deviant subjects, which incorporates a simple spatial vision model, consisting of a linear filtering stage, with a band-pass achromatic filter and two low-pass chromatic ones, for the red-green and blue-yellow mechanisms. Dopamine antagonists impair ‘red-green’ discrimination in goldfish after intravitreal injection

Color vision in goldfish is tetrachromatic. However, under mesopic illumination conditions the L-cones do not contribute to wavelength discrimination, and color vision becomes trichromatic. To investigate the role of dopamine in light adaptation, we tested the effect of the unspecific dopamine antagonist haloperidol and of the specific dopamine Dl receptor antagonists SCH 23390 and SKF 83566-biotinyl in behavioral wavelength discrimination experiments. After injection of dopamine antagonists into the vitreous, a reduction in wavelength discrimination was observed in the range between 560 nm and 630 nm but not in the range between 404 nm and 501 nm.

Looking for the dichromatic version of a colour vision model

Different hypotheses on the sensitivity of photoreceptors and post-receptoral mechanisms were introduced in different colour vision models to derive acceptable dichromatic versions. Models with one (Ingling and T'sou, Guth et al, Boynton) and two linear opponent stages (DeValois and DeValois) and with two non-linear opponent stages (ATD95) were used. Color memory matching: Time effect and other factors

The methods of simultaneous and successive, or memory, color matching have been compared for 10 color reference samples distributed in two groups each performed by 50 observers (25 men and 25 women). Our results, obtained with a total of two hundred Munsell color chips arrayed on ten gray cardboard panels, indicate that: (a) while by simultaneous matching the mean color differences obtained are, in most cases, lower than 1 CIELAB unit, those obtained by memory are generally higher; (b) the worst remembered colors are yellow, light green, blue, and pink, and the best remembered color is orange; (c) the influence of the delay time (15 s, 15 min, and 24 h) is significant for the remembered mea…
