Karhunen-Loe`ve transform applied to region-based segmentation of color aerial images
2001
The use of the Karhunen-Loeve transform (KLT) for region- based segmentation of aerial images by color and textural attributes is presented. Our aerial images are shown to be homogeneous color im- ages within the Karhunen-Loeve color representation space, which means they can be represented more easily and the region-based seg- mentation algorithms can be optimized. For texture analysis, the KLT is the basis of the local linear transform (LLT) and allows structural infor- mation about textures to be represented in an optimal and condensed manner. The LLT provides a system of textural analysis in the form of an adapted filter bank. We end the paper by presenting a method for merg- ing textur…
Perceptual similarity between color images using fuzzy metrics
2016
A method to measure the similarity between color images is proposed.Correlation among the color image channels is taken into account.Proposed similarity measure is based on fuzzy metrics because of their advantages. The proposal matches well with the perceptual visual similarity between color images. In many applications of the computer vision field measuring the similarity between (color) images is of paramount importance. However, the commonly used pixelwise similarity measures such as Mean Absolute Error, Peak Signal to Noise Ratio, Mean Squared Error or Normalized Color Difference do not match well with perceptual similarity. Recently, it has been proposed a method for gray-scale image s…
A neural network based automatic road signs recognizer
2003
Automatic road sign recognition systems are aimed at detection and recognition of one or more road signs from real-world color images. In this research, road signs are detected and extracted from real world scenes on the basis of their color and shape features. A dynamic region growing technique is adopted to enhance color segmentation results obtained in the HSV color space. The technique is based on a dynamic threshold that reduces the effect of hue instability in real scenes due to external brightness variation. Classification is then performed on extracted candidate regions using multilayer perceptron neural networks. The obtained results show good detection and recognition rates of the…
Application of the S-CIELAB color model to processed and calibrated images with a colorimetric dithering method.
2009
This work uses the S-CIELAB color model to compare images that have been calibrated and processed using a colorimetric dithering method which simulates increments in viewing distance. Firstly, we obtain XYZ calibrated images by applying the appropriate color transformations to the original images. These transformations depend on whether the image is viewed on a display device or encoded by a capture device, for example. Secondly, we use a colorimetric dithering method consisting of a partitive additive mixing of XYZ tristimulus values. The number of dithered pixels depends on simulated viewing distance. The dithered tristimulus values are transformed to digital data to observe the dithering…
Colour segmentation based on a light reflection model to locate citrus fruits for robotic harvesting
1993
Abstract Colour segmentation with a vision system is a good procedure to identify and locate fruits in robotic harvesting. Natural illumination conditions present in these environments produce a very variable illumination of the scene, in addition, fruits are usually partially occluded, and complete visual information about them is not available. The colour segmentation used for these purposes must take into account the appearance of highlights and shadows that natural illumination conditions produce. A method based on the Dichromatic Reflection Model for the light reflected from the surface object is reported here. Through the assumption of this model the light rays reflected from points o…
Colour image segmentation and labeling through multiedit-condensing
1992
Abstract A new method is proposed for detecting and locating objects of interest within a colour scene under very strong variabilities in lighting conditions, object shape and pigmentation. The method is based on Nearest Neighbour classification and Multiedit-Condensing techniques and is applied to implement the vision subsystem of a robotic citric harvesting device. Experiments and results are reported showing the effectiveness of the method and illustrating its appropriateness to the proposed task.
2D virtual texture on 3D real object with coded structured light
2008
Augmented reality is used to improve color segmentation on human body or on precious no touch artifacts. We propose a technique to project a synthesized texture on real object without contact. Our technique can be used in medical or archaeological application. By projecting a suitable set of light patterns onto the surface of a 3D real object and by capturing images with a camera, a large number of correspondences can be found and the 3D points can be reconstructed. We aim to determine these points of correspondence between cameras and projector from a scene without explicit points and normals. We then project an adjusted texture onto the real object surface. We propose a global and automat…
POLARIZATION-BASED CAR DETECTION
2018
International audience; Road scene understanding is a vital task for driving assistance systems. Robust vehicle detection is a precondition for diverse applications particularly for obstacle avoidance and secure navigation. Color images provide limited information about the physical properties of the object. This results in unstable vehicle detection caused mainly from road scene complexity (strong reflexions, noises and radiometric distortions). Instead, polarimetric images, characteristic of the light wave, can robustly describe important physical properties of the object (e.g., the surface geometric structure, material and roughness etc). This modality gives rich physical informations wh…
Farbkodierte Volumen-Rekonstruktionen zur dreidimensionalen Darstellung von CT-Daten
2008
PURPOSE To evaluate a technique of colored three-dimensional reconstructions without segmentation. MATERIAL AND METHODS Color-coded volume rendered images were reconstructed from the volume data of 25 thoracic, abdominal, musculoskeletal, and vascular helical CT scans using commercial software. The CT volume rendered voxels were encoded with color in the following manner. Opacity, hue, lightness, and chroma were assigned to each of four classes defined by CT number. Color-coded reconstructions were compared to the corresponding grey-scale coded reconstructions. RESULTS Color coded volume rendering enabled realistic visualisation of pathologic findings when there was sufficient difference in…
A wavelet-based demosaicking algorithm for embedded applications
2010
This paper presents an alternative to the spatial reconstruction of the sampled color filter array acquired through a digital image sensor. A demosaicking operation has to be applied to the raw image to recover the full-resolution color image. We present a low-complexity demosaicking algorithm processing in the wavelet domain. Produced images are available at the output of the algorithm either in the spatial representation or directly in the wavelet domain for high-level post processing in the latter domain. Results show that the computational complexity has been lowered by a factor of five compared to state of the art demosaicking algorithms.
