RGB photoelasticity applied to the analysis of membrane residual stress in glass

The measurement of residual stresses is of great relevance in the glass industry. The analysis of residual stress in glass is usually made by photoelastic methods because glass is a photoelastic material. This paper considers the determination of membrane residual stresses in glass plates by automatic digital photoelasticity in white light (RGB photoelasticity). The proposed method is applied to the analysis of membrane residual stresses in some tempered glass. The proposed method can effectively replace manual methods based on the use of white light, which are currently provided by some technical standards.

A review of automated methods for the collection and analysis of photoelastic data

Photoelasticity is one of the most widely used full-field methods for experimental stress analysis. However, the collection of photoelastic parameters can be a long and tedious process. The advent of automated photoelastic systems has allowed the experimentalists to speed up the rate of analysis and to perform more complex investigations. This paper provides a survey of recent methods of automated photoelasticity developed in the last 20 years, i.e. methods of the fringe centres, half-fringe photoelasticity, phase-stepping photoelasticity, methods based on the Fourier transform, spectral content analysis (SCA) and RGB (red, green, blue) photoelasticity.

Multi-line NIR-RGB emission in Nd:LiNbO3 RPE optical waveguides

2007

Simultaneous generation of four spectral emission lines has been achieved in Nd-doped lithium niobate reverse proton exchange optical waveguide cavities. Using a pump at 800 nm, the four lines were found and they are due to lasing at 1.3735 combined with parametric conversion at 0.687, 0.574 and 0.4 mum.

A comprehensive analysis of the cool RCB star DY Persei

Context. Theoretically, the number of cool Galactic R Coronae Borealis stars (RCBs) should be greater than the warm RCBs, however to date, only a few candidates have been detected. Aims. Observations of the extremely cool RCB candidate, DY Per, and the anonymous nearby star (the “Taipei star”) are presented to specify its fundamental parameters and evolutionary status. Methods. CCD BVRI photometry and low-resolution spectroscopy at deep light decline was carried out in 2004. Reflection component in the Bright Atoll Source GX 9+9

GX 9+9 (4U 1728-16) is a low mass X-ray binary (LMXB) source harboring a neutron star. Although it belongs to the subclass of the bright Atoll sources together with GX 9+1, GX 3+1, and GX 13+1, its broadband spectrum is poorly studied and apparently does not show reflection features in the spectrum. To constrain the continuum well and verify whether a relativistic smeared reflection component is present, we analyze the broadband spectrum of GX 9+9 using {\it BeppoSAX} and \textit{XMM-Newton} spectra covering the 0.3-40 keV energy band. Nanoparticle One-Dimensional Photonic-Crystal Dye Laser

The stimulated emission from an organic dye adsorbed within the void network of a NP 1D (photonic crystals) PC, was studied. The nanoparticle one-dimensional photonic crystals (NP 1DPCs) were assembled by polyelectrolyte-assisted layer-by-layer deposition with subsequent calcination of the films to remove the polymer components. Each layer was prepared by spin-coating a block-copolymer-templated titania- or silica-based sol solution followed by a calcination step. Isolated photon production in proton-nucleus collisions at forward rapidity

We calculate isolated photon production at forward rapidities in proton-nucleus collisions in the Color Glass Condensate framework. Our calculation uses dipole cross sections solved from the running coupling Balitsky-Kovchegov equation with an initial condition fit to deep inelastic scattering data. For comparison, we also update the results for the nuclear modification factor for pion production in the same kinematics. We present predictions for future forward RHIC and LHC measurements at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV and $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=8$ TeV.

Comparative study on the quality characteristics of some Egyptian mango cultivars used for food processing

This study aims to investigate the physical, chemical, rheological and sensorial properties of six common mango (Mangifera indica) cultivars in Egypt. These common cultivars were Alfonse, Sedeka, Awis, Sinara, Sukari and Zibdia. Weights of mango fruits ranged between 246.6 and 549.2 g. The highest significant value of sphericity was in Alfonse fruits (0.82), whereas the lowest value was 0.58 in Sinara fruits. The highest firmness value was 29.51 N in Sedeka fruits. The highest elasticity was 1.16 N/mm for Sukari fruits. Multi-domain spectral approach with Sommerfeld condition for the Maxwell equations

We present a multidomain spectral approach with an exterior compactified domain for the Maxwell equations for monochromatic fields. The Sommerfeld radiation condition is imposed exactly at infinity being a finite point on the numerical grid. As an example, axisymmetric situations in spherical and prolate spheroidal coordinates are discussed.

Spectral Evolution of Scorpio X‐1 along its Color‐Color Diagram

We analyze a large collection of RXTE archive data of the bright X‐ray source Scorpius X‐1 in order to study the broadband spectral evolution of the source for different values of the inferred mass accretion rate by selecting energy spectra from its Color‐Color Diagram. We model the spectra with the combination of two absorbed components: a soft thermal component, which can be interpreted as thermal emission from an accretion disk, and a hybrid Comptonization component, which self‐consistently includes the Fe Kα fluorescence line and the Compton reflected continuum.
