Some monomers, oligomers and polymers with conjugated triple bonds

1991

In the first part new monoaminodiacetylenes with different numbers of CH2-groups, the formation of Perowskit-type Mn complexes and their polymerizability are described. Symmetrical diaminodiacetylenes and some derivatives therefrom have also been prepared. The second part deals with different types of polymers with diacetylene units in the backbone. Under irradiation color formation and crosslinking take place. Well-defined low molecular weight model compounds of polydiacetylenes is the subject of the third part. Finally rod-like but soluble polymers with alternating p-phenylene and acetylene units are described.

Chemical Approach to Functional Artificial Opals

2007

Artificial opals are self-assembled colloidal crystals, which consist of a cubic dense packing (fcc) of hard (not film-forming) colloids with diameters ranging from 200 to 900 nm. Because of their periodic nanostructure the assemblies are able to reflect light that matches their periodicity, i.e., UV- to IR-radiation depending on the size of the colloids. Thus, they present a subgroup of 'photonic crystals'. While, originally, the chemistry inside the colloids and the resulting opals was of minor significance, nowadays the chemical variation of opals is becoming more and more important for the preparation of functional and patterned opals. The search for functional opals is, therefore, espe…

Bleaching of color of kraft pulp mill effluents and natural organic matter in lakes

2002

In situ changes in the color of lake water and biologically treated kraft pulp mill effluents mixed in lake water were examined in three lakes. In 1.7 m3 enclosures, the color (400–700 g Pt·m–3) of the mixture of pulp mill effluent and lake water remained similar for 4 months in darkness, whereas exposure to solar radiation resulted in 17–42% bleaching of color. During the summer stratification of a humic lake, the color (160 g Pt·m–3) of hypolimnetic water remained similar to that found during spring turnover, but the color of epilimnion decreased 13%. The measured rates of photochemical bleaching of color by solar radiation could explain the decrease of epilimnetic color. Attenuation of …

Fluorescence and color as markers for the Maillard reaction in milk–cereal based infant foods during storage

2007

Abstract Free and total fluorescence compounds and color formation were measured in three different milk–cereal based infant foods stored at 25, 30 and 37 °C for 9 months to evaluate the advanced and final stages of the Maillard reaction. Milk–cereal infant foods containing honey (B) or fruits (C) had fluorescent values higher than sample (A) without them. This difference could be ascribed to the higher monosaccharide (fructose and/or glucose) content of (B) and (C), which could increase susceptibility to the Maillard reaction. However, for color increase (ΔE), no significant differences (p

Omega-3 PUFAs and gut microbiota: A preventive approach for colorectal cancer

2021

The influence of diet on the composition of the intestinal microbiota and related pathologies has been known for some time. Some classes of nutrients, such as fatty acids belonging to the omega 3 series, have particular effects on the bacteria that make up the intestinal microbiota. ω-3 PUFAs affect the gut microbiota in three different ways: by modulating the type and abundance of intestinal bacteria, by regulate SCFAs levels, and by alter the levels of proinflammatory mediators. Through these modalities, ω-3 PUFAs could be useful for the prevention of intestinal diseases such as Colorectal Cancer (CRC). The ability of ω-3 PUFAs to modulate the intestinal inflammatory response, to preserve…

Die kolorimetrische bestimmung höhermolekularer phenol-formaldehyd-kondensate in dimethylformamid-methanol-lösung mit FeCl3

1961

The preparation of four derivatives of α.α′-azo-bis-isobutyronitrile is described. The polymerization of methylmethacrylate and styrene …

Design of a customized pattern for improving color constancy across camera and illumination changes

2010

International audience; This paper adresses the problem of color constancy on a large image database acquired with varying digital cameras and lighting conditions. Automatic white balance control proposed by an available commercial camera is not sufficient to provide reproducible color classification. A device-independent color representation may be obtained by applying a chromatic adaptation transform, from a calibrated color checker pattern included in the field of view. Instead of using the standard Macbeth color checker, we suggest to select judicious colors to design a customized pattern from contextual information. A comparative study demonstrates that this approach insures a stronger…

Role of epigenetic factors in the selection of the alternative splicing isoforms of human

2017

Mutation-driven activation of KRAS is crucial to cancer development. The human gene yields four mRNA splicing isoforms, 4A and 4B being translated to protein. Their different properties and oncogenic potential have been studied, but the mechanisms deciding the ratio 4A/4B are not known. To address this issue, the expression of the four KRAS isoforms was determined in 9 human colorectal cancer cell lines. HCT116 and SW48 were further selected because they present the highest difference in the ratio 4A/4B (twice as much in HCT116 than in SW48). Chromatin structure was analysed at the exon 4A, characteristic of isoform 4A, at its intronic borders and at the two flanking exons. The low nucleoso…
